While the Marvel Universe has plenty of heroes that can save the universe from massive galactic threats, it also has a bunch of heroes who take care of the streets and look out for the little guy.

If it is street-level heroes that people are looking for then New York City is the place to go and Daredevil and Spider-Man are the heroes to find. These two are ultimately street-level heroes, they keep their heads out of the clouds and focused on the next person they can help in their respective neighborhoods. They both spend all their energy keeping each citizen safe in the local area more often than fighting more spectacular global villains.

10 Daredevil: Never Been An Avenger

While a lot of heroes have come and gone through the numerous different Avengers lineups, Daredevil has never been an official member of the team. That isn't to say he has never helped them out, he has participated in lots of Avengers events, such as Civil War and Shattered Heroes. But he has never let his focus become split between duties to a larger team and duties to the people of his city.

The best example of this is in Tom Taylor's Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man series. In issue #6, fans see Spider-Man spending the day with a new sidekick, Spider-Bite. It is revealed at the end of the issue that this young boy has cancer and Spider-Man has been spending his time making this kid feel like a hero and letting him live out his dream. This is the kind of thing that truly makes him a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. 

8 Daredevil: Focuses On One Neighborhood

While the whole city of New York is too big for just Daredevil to cover, Daredevil remains in his home base of Hell's Kitchen. He knows every rooftop and corner of Hell's Kitchen and it is here that he can provide his best protection. By narrowing his field, he can help the people of the Kitchen more than if he was spread all across the city of New York.

7 Spider-Man: He Is Approachable

Spider-Man is definitely known as the nice guy around town. Both with the public and with other heroes, Spidey certainly loves a good hero team-up. He is always helping out citizens with mundane needs as well as rescuing them when they are in trouble. His joke-making, friendly attitude makes him one of the most approachable super-heroes for the everyday person.

6 Daredevil: Helps In and Out Of Costume

As Daredevil, Matt Murdock is able to make sure that bad men are caught, but as a lawyer, he can help make sure they get put away for good.

Matt defends the people of Hell's Kitchen by protecting them from both sides of the law, this allows him to be as effective as possible, but it also raises some ethical questions about Matt's law practices and definitely causes some cognitive dissonance for Murdock. Even now that Matt is no longer a lawyer he still helps people who are on parole and checks in on them.

5 Spider-Man: Looks Out For The Less Fortunate

On multiple occasions, Spider-Man has helped out homeless people or the less fortunate. There are even times when people have asked him how they can repay Spider-Man for saving them and he gives them the names of people in need and he tells them to go help them out. He is so concerned about everyone and cares so deeply for each person that he tries to help.

4 Daredevil: Defines What It Means To Be Street Level

Daredevil has an intimate understanding of what it means to be a street-level hero. While it is normally attributed to working on a smaller scale, within a single city instead of on a global scale, Daredevil sees it differently. He views it as being on 'people-level' as defined in Daredevil #22, meaning that while the Avengers are heroes and help save the world, they don't necessarily help as much as they could or understand all the things people need help with.

Every single hero is constantly making sacrifices, but Spider-Man has had more than his share of pain. One of the biggest sacrifices is his love and marriage with Mary-Jane Watson. His identity was revealed and he was no longer able to be an effective Spider-Man, so they made a deal with the devil Mephisto to wipe out the knowledge of his identity in exchange for his life with MJ.

2 Daredevil: Sets An Example For All Heroes

In the most recent arc of Daredevil, Matt is taking responsibility for his actions. He inadvertently caused the death of someone and he feels that he must be held accountable. He pleads guilty to manslaughter and that means prison time. Prison is extremely dangerous for someone like Matt, but he knows that in order to be an effective hero, the people need to be able to trust him and that the system works.

If it is between stopping the bad guy or saving a life, Spider-Man will always choose to save a life. He knows that he will get another crack at the villain, but once that life is lost, it is gone for good. Spider-Man makes sure to make each life a priority for him and he would rather give his own life than let an innocent person come to harm on his watch.
