Marvel Comics today released its most revealing teaser for the upcoming Spidergeddon event. That teaser includes 15 members of the Spider-Verse who will likely play major roles in the mysterious event. Spidergeddon was first announced last month with a similar image threatening “Spidergeddon is nigh,” though that teaser was set against a simple, black backdrop. The latest tease adds a plethora of Spider-Men and Women in addition to the foreboding phrase.

So, who are the many Spider-Verse inhabitants teased in this new artwork? As it turns out, they come from all over the Marvel Multiverse. There are some heavy-hitters and small-timers in the bunch, so let’s get to breaking down who these Spider-People are, where they’re from and what their respective histories look like.

Peter Parker, Miles Morales & Spider-Gwen

This is a trio that needs no introduction, so let’s keep it brief. Peter Parker is a mystery to no one at this point. Debuting in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962, Peter has been Spider-Man for 56 years and counting. Most recently he took down a symbiote-infected Norman Osborn -- Red Goblin -- and his grandson, Normie. It’s no surprise he’ll be at the forefront of Spidergeddon.

Miles Morales was created by Brian Michael Bendis and debuted in Ultimate Fallout #4. Since then, he has become a staple of the Spider-Verse. Lately, Miles has been prepping to become a member of Leonardo da Vinci’s new S.H.I.E.L.D. team, among other things.

Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker’s first true love until she died at the hands of the Green Goblin. The character was later reintroduced into Marvel canon in an alternate reality in which she became the acting Spider-powered superhero, not Spider-Man.

Jessica Drew (Earth-1610)

The Spider-Man timeline is littered with clones of Peter Parker, many of which could rightly be categorized as “failed,” but a handful of them do excel. Jessica was created to work for the CIA, but she eventually escaped, at which point she donned the mantle of Spider-Woman and did her best to keep other clones away from Peter Parker. After Peter’s death, she became a mentor of sorts to Miles Morales.

Spider-Man Noir (Earth-90214)

This Peter Parker is a blast from the past, literally. The Spider-Man Noir version of Spider-Man was raised during the Great Depression. Peter becomes Spider-Man after his uncle Ben is killed for organizing a strike on sweatshops. Peter even creates his own costume, based on a World War I-era airman. This Peter is a little rawer than the Spider-Man most are used to. He touts a pair of pistols, for example, and kills off the Vulture early on in his career. Spider-Man Noir eventually cools down, though, and is recruited into the Spider-Verse storyline by Superior Spider-Man.

Spinneret

Spinneret is the alternate-reality version of Mary Jane Watson who has become a superhero. Aside from that, this Mary Jane’s history is surprisingly similar to her mainline Marvel counterpart. Most recently, Spinneret can be seen in the Renew Your Vows storyline, though she did not participate in the Spider-Verse event. How she makes her way into Spidergeddon is anyone’s guess.

Superior Spider-Man

Superior Spider-Man

Not every Spider-Man in the new Spidergeddon teaser art is another version of Peter Parker. Well, most are… and technically this one is, but he’s also not. Superior Spider-Man is actually Doctor Octopus in the body of Peter Parker. Peter visits the villain on his deathbed, only for the two to be suddenly mind-swapped. Things don’t go well for the Superior Spider-Man, and eventually Doctor Octopus cedes control of Spider-Man’s body to Peter’s consciousness.

Spider-Man 2099

Spider-man 2099

Spider-Man 2099 is genius inventor Miguel O’Hara whose attempt to purge his body of a deadly toxin is sabotaged, inadvertently gifting him with powers similar to those of Spider-Man. Miguel hails from a point in the future when the Heroic Age is long done, with the Avengers and their contemporaries only historical footnotes to be studied and scrutinized. Miguel quickly discovers the importance of heroes, though, and does his best to uphold Spider-Man’s legacy.

Ashley Barton (Spider-Woman)

Ashley Barton

This is something of a surprise, as Ashley Barton did not start off on particularly good footing. This version of Spider-Woman is the daughter of an alternate-reality version of Hawkeye. The Old Man Logan storyline proves that she did not inherit her father’s sense of heroism. Instead, she ends up murdering her reality’s version of Kingpin and supplants him. Superior Spider-Man recruits her to help end the Inheritors’ Multiverse-spanning quest to kill Spider-Men.

Silk

Cindy Moon isn’t an alternate version of Peter Parker, but her backstory is similar. Cindy was present the day Peter was bit by the radioactive spider that turned him into Spider-Man. In fact, that same spider fell from Peter onto Cindy, biting her right before it died. Cindy was gifted with all the same powers as Peter, but she chose to seclude herself from the world when she learned she is being hunted.

May Parker

May Parker

May Parker is an alternate-reality version of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s firstborn child. May develops powers just like her father and eventually gets into the heroing business as Spider-Girl. May’s father is cut down during the events of Spider-Verse. Since then, she has joined up with other Spider-Man-adjacent heroes to protect worlds left without a Spider-Man after the events of Spider-Verse.

Spider-Punk

There’s nothing quite like a little anarchy in your team composition. Hobart Brown is a punk rocker and his reality’s version of Spider-Man, though he is casually referred to as Spider-Punk. Spider-Punk overthrew his dimension’s version of Norman Osborn using augmented symbiotes. He was later recruited into the Multiverse effort to stop the Inheritors from killing off Spider-Verse heroes.

Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly)

Ben Reilly is another Peter Parker clone, this one created by Miles Warren, the Jackal. Miles created Scarlet Spider to torment Peter Parker after the death of Gwen Stacy, who the villain had fallen in love with. Peter defeated Ben, but the clone later reappeared as the Scarlet Spider. Despite dying numerous times, Scarlet Spider has a penchant for returning to the land of the living, enough so that he has received a visit from a curious Death on at least one occasion.

A Spider-Man Tsum Tsum

Yes, the Spidergeddon event will incorporate the tsum tsum incarnation of Spider-Man. These plushies have found popularity in their own Marvel Tsum Tsum comic book line, and now one will make its way into the spider-themed end of all things. The tsum tsums can duplicate themselves at will and learn advanced superhero powers just by watching, so maybe don’t underestimate them.

Spoiler-Man?

There’s one Spider-Person whose identity has yet to be revealed, and the possibilities are endless. One potential Spider-Man who could fill that slot is the Ultimates version of Peter Parker, who recently took up the mantle of Spider-Man again after the Multiverse was reborn. An older version of Benjy Parker, May Parker’s brother, would also make for an interesting addition. Heck, we could even be looking at the return of Cosmic Spider-Man. Anything is possible, as long the hero in question can shoot webs.
