It's pretty safe to say most people aren't exactly thrilled about the news that Sony and Disney are currently at an impasse regarding the future of their massively successful, shared Spider-Man franchise. Seemingly out of nowhere, one of the most universally beloved aspects of recent MCU entries now seems to be fading into ash, with both the respective Marvel and Spider-Man franchises forced into major shakeups moving forward.
Fans, actors, and directors have already voiced their frustrations over what appears to be financial disputes between the two powerhouse studios, prompting a number of hashtag campaigns including #SpiderManFarFromTheMCU, #SonyIsOverParty and #SaveSpiderMan spreading across Twitter. Check out just a taste of the disappointment below:
Sony/Disney YOU DID NOT MAKE ME GET ATTACHED TO TOM HOLLAND SPIDER-MAN AND EMOTIONALLY INVESTED IN HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH TONY ONLY TO TAKE HIM AWAY FROM ME!!!!!#SaveSpiderMan pic.twitter.com/8nJnbysrDW— Aysha (@AyshaTheElf) August 21, 2019
Perhaps the best summation came from Twitter user @flashlover2ajt, who posted a nice metaphor for the entire online fan community rallying together at the moment.
Hey, it's not like these kinds of campaigns haven't worked out in the past.
Now in theaters, director Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal.
