A new Marvel limited series reimagines Spider-Gwen as other popular heroes from across the Multiverse.

Per The Mary Sue, Marvel Comics will launch Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse, a five-issue series written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Jodi Nishijima, in February 2022. Instead of adding new heroes to the Spider-Verse, the book will see Gwen Stacy, aka Ghost-Spider, travel through time and space to meet variants of herself that skipped the spider-themed apparel in favor of ensembles reminiscent of other fan-favorite characters.

David Nakayama's cover art for the series' first issue shows Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider front and center. She is flanked by Nightbird, an incarnation of Gwen Stacy who was Nighthawk's protégé in the world of Heroes Reborn. Additionally, versions of Gwen as Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Captain Marvel can be seen racing across the image.

Each of these new doppelgangers is inspired by the art of Marvel Stormbreaker Peach Momoko. Like Spider-Gwen, these incarnations are intended to represent worlds in which Gwen took on the mantles of these heroes instead of the heroes fans are familiar with seeing under the mask. Marvel's own promotion for the series highlights the limitless possibilities of the premise, asking, "What would have happened if instead she had picked up the enchanted hammer, Mjolnir? Or if she received the Super-Soldier Serum? Or built a high-tech suit of armor?"

In many ways, Gwen-Verse brings the story of Spider-Gwen full circle. The character first appeared in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 by Jason Latour and Robbi and was one of the many alternate-reality Spider-people who fought against Morlun's attack on the Spider-Totems. Gwen proved to be popular enough to warrant her own solo series shortly after and was included as part of the core cast of the Oscar-winning film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She is also set to appear in the subsequent sequel to that film, as well as in a planned spinoff.

The announcement of Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse mirrors the upcoming adventures of another famous web-head, Miles Morales. In What If... Miles Morales by Cody Ziglar and Paco Medina, Marvel peers into the multiverse to show worlds in which Miles was inspired by to follow in the footsteps of over heroes. Starting with a world in which Miles became Captain America, the series will jump from reality to reality, offering up unique takes on Miles as Wolverine, Thor and the Hulk in subsequent issues.

Outside of the multiverse, Spider-Man will be joined by some familiar faces this February when the classic '90s team known as the Slingers reunites. Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY by Geoffrey Thorne, Jan Bazaldua and Jim Towe will see the heroes return on the payroll of the Beyond Corporation, a giant company that recently bought the rights to the name Spider-Man. This issue will also be focus on Hobie Brown as the newest Hornet teaming up with original members Dusk and Ricochet.

Written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by and illustrated by Jodi Nishijima, Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse #1 goes on sale in February 2022 from Marvel Comics.
