Marvel will explore the Mad Titan's unsettling past and Thor's future death in an upcoming Thanos: Death Notes one-shot.

Thanos: Death Notes comes from writers J. Michael Straczynski, Torunn Grønbekk, Kyle Starks and Christopher Cantwell, artists Andrea Di Vito, Ron Lim, Travel Foreman and more and cover artist Andrea Sorrentino. Releasing in November, Thanos: Death Notes spins out of Donny Cates and Nic Klein's Thor run and sees the God of Thunder attempt to prevent a terrible vision of his death, which involves Thanos wielding an Infinity Stone-powered Mjolnir. The synopsis for the one-shot reads, "Thanos is missing, presumed dead after the chilling events of Kieron Gillen and Esad Ribić’s ETERNALS. But Thor has seen a vision of his return. And it is enough to make even a God fear. To prepare himself, to prepare the universe, Thor desperately searches for answers in Thanos’ past…and finds a glimpse of the Marvel Universe’s dark future."

Marvel Special Explores Thor's Future Death and Thanos' Infinity Stone Powered Mjolnir

“Ever since the Black Winter gave Thor a glimpse of how he was going to die way back in THOR #6, and Thor saw that it was going to be at the hands of a Thanos wielding not only an Infinity Stones-encrusted Mjolnir but also seemingly a new black Infinity Stone (not to mention with an army of undead super heroes and villains at his side), Thor has been working to prevent this horrific fate,” editor Wil Moss said of Thanos: Death Notes. “In this Thanos one-shot, his quest brings him to look to Thanos’ past for clues. But in doing so, will Thor learn something of use, or merely realize that Thanos truly is inevitable? Big things are set up here, brought to you by an all-star cast of creators -- don’t miss it!”

Thanos, one of the most notorious villains of the Marvel Universe, was previously killed by Gamora/Requiem during Marvel's Infinity Wars. He was resurrected by Phastos and proceeded to battle the Eternals until he was defeated by Druig in Eternals #12. Thanos recently made a reappearance in the final pages of Genis-Vell: Captain Marvel #1 by writer Peter David and artist Juanan Ramirez. In Thor #6, the Black Winter shows Thor a vision from the future where Thanos is holding Mjolnir with the Infinity Stones in one hand and a new stone in his other. Behind him are a number of zombie-like characters from across the Marvel Universe, including Spider-Man, Venom, Hulk, Wolverine and more.

Thanos: Death Notes #1 releases Nov. 30 from Marvel.
