Marvel has revealed promo art for its newest character Somnus.

Illustrated by Luciano Vecchio, the mysterious character has a silver and black outfit with a cape that appears to be made out of stars. "Who was Somnus?" the promo art reads, hinting at a secret history for the character. Though Somnus's affiliation and powers remain a secret, a hint to his history may be in his name.

In Roman mythology, Somnus was the god of sleep -- rather fitting given his celestial-themed costume. Given the moon-shaped symbol on his chest, Somnus might even have ties to Marvel's celestial-themed vigilante Moon Knight -- who is slated to debut in a new ongoing series in July. Whether Somnus is a hero or villain is unknown.

Somnus may also have ties to two Marvel series. The Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Yildiray Çinar will introduce new characters over the course of its run, including Threadneedle and the regal Lady Lotus. Somnus could potentially appear in The Marvels, as it encompasses the whole of the Marvel Universe. The Marvel's Voices: Pride special is also slated to debut a new LGBTQ+ hero, with Vecchio having created a special cover for the one-shot and even contributing interior art. It's possible that Somnus could be that hero.

More information about Somnus will be revealed in June, according to Marvel.
