There are hundreds of classic stories in the Marvel Universe that have impacted the courses of its many heroes and villains. Some of the best examples include The Infinity Gauntlet or Civil War. However, there are equally impactful stories that are more personal and focused on particular heroes. These iconic stories have often made their way into Marvel-based video games.

Marvel SNAP is the latest video game outing centered around the Marvel Universe. However, rather than being action or adventure-based, Marvel SNAP is a competitive card-based game. Players can build a deck of heroes and villains and use it to overtake at least two famous Marvel locations with a combination of power levels from each card. Each card also has particular abilities that could be used to boost the user or hinder the opponent. That said, one currently unavailable card is also a cruel Easter egg referencing what is perhaps Spider-Man's most impactful and personal story: the influential life (and death) of Uncle Ben.

How Marvel Snap's Uncle Ben Card Works

Spider-Man Uncle Ben feature

Uncle Ben was likely the biggest influence on Peter Parker's life, even before his tragic passing. His fatherly approach to raising Peter helped influence the qualities and sensibilities that Peter would later rely on when he was at his weakest. However, more than anything, his murder at the hands of a robber -- which Peter could have stopped -- sent Peter on a path to be the hero that fans know and love.

In Marvel SNAP, rather than have any offensive abilities, Ben's card, which only has a power level of two, was designed to be taken out of the game quickly. The reason for this is that the moment his card is destroyed, Spider-Man is added to the deck. On the surface, this seems like a benefit from a strategic standing, as it means that a more powerful character could come in clutch and save the day. However, its deeper meaning is much more comedic because of its dark implication.

Marvel Snap's Uncle Ben Card Is Both Cruel & Funny

Ghost-like Uncle Ben and Spider-Man starting at something in Marvel Comics.

By incorporating such an on-the-nose use of Uncle Ben's card, it's clear that the real reason for his existence is to aid in Spider-Man's (and by extension, the player's) success. This fits his role narratively -- from a narrative standpoint, his death was his main purpose in Spider-Man's story, as it allowed Peter to embrace his role as Spider-Man. Because of the meta approach to the card, there's also a degree of dark humor to the Easter egg, as it's hard to imagine Uncle Ben being used for any other reason.

Marvel SNAP is deceptively simple in its premise but has since shown that the devil is in the details, as each card features both fitting and clever abilities that fit the character in question. Uncle Ben's card exemplifies this, as Spider-Man fans will quickly realize why his ability is so important. But if Uncle Ben is only one example, it'll be exciting to see what other clever abilities come with each card.
