Characters that are involved with S.T.E.M. and are geniuses could be considered the backbone of the Marvel Universe. They invent technology that superheroes use daily, discover ways people can better use their powers, and much more.

Sadly, most of these characters have historically been men, like Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Peter Parker, and Bruce Banner. However, there are several women who have S.T.E.M.-related backstories and powers, and even more, have been introduced in recent years. Many of these characters have been overlooked despite being able to do the same as, if not more, than their male colleagues.

10 Maya Hansen Created Extremis

Doctor Maya Hansen made her debut in Iron Man Volume 4 #1 by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov.  Maya's biggest accomplishment is creating the Extremis virus, something so powerful that it can rewrite a beings DNA.

She originally set out to create a new type of super-soldier, and some would say she succeeded, as Extremis gives its users similar abilities. She was also a villain in the MCU movie Iron Man 3, where this plotline was adapted.

9 Kitty Pryde Is An X-Men Who Is A Computer Genius

Kitty Pryde

Kitty Pryde is best known as the mutant known as Shadowcat, who started as a teen member of the X-Men, who has since grown up and has lead the team before. She also was briefly a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and used the alias Starlord.

Her main powerset is the ability to phase through objects, but she is also a computer genius. Kitty is able to program, modify, and diagnose almost any issue, including alien systems.

8 Monica Rappaccini Has Been The Scientist Supreme Of A.I.M.

Monica Rappaccini is one of the most brilliant villains in the Marvel Universe. She made her first appearance in Amazing Fantasy Volume 2 #7 by Fred Van Lente and Leonard Kirk. Outside of comics, Monica has appeared in video games, cartoons, and the M.O.D.O.K. animated show.

She is knowledgeable in robotics, chemistry, physics, and engineering, but her specialty is biochemistry and biotoxins. This level of expertise allowed her to become the Scientist Supreme of A.I.M. at one point.

7 Mockingbird Worked To Develop A Version Of The Super-Soldier Serum

While most people appreciate Mockingbird as being one of Marvel's best spies and agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., many forget her scientific background.  She is a biochemist who was recruited to S.H.I.E.L.D. while working with Doctor Wilma Calvin on Project Gladiator.

Project Gladiator was formed to try and recreate the Super-Soldier serum that was given to Steve Rogers aka Captain America. She is now a mentor for the members G.I.R.L.

6 Shuri Is The Princess Of Wakanda And One Of Their Greatest Minds

Shuri became a household name after her appearance in the film Black Panther, where she was the teenage genius younger sister of T'Challa. In the film, it is shown that she is responsible for most of Wakanda's technology, including the Black Panther suit.

Her genius level intellect is canon in the comics as well and has been spotlighted since the film's release. Not only is Shuri a technological genius, but she also is also trained after been given supernatural abilities.

5 Unstoppable Wasp Was Able To Reverse Engineer The Famous Pym Particle

Nadia van Dyne, aka the Unstoppable Wasp, is one of Marvel's newest scientists. She is the daughter of Hank Pym and Maria Trovaya, two scientists themselves. Nadia was raised in the Red Room, where they gave her a lab and tried to get her to recreate the Pym Particle for their own evil use.

Nadia eventually figured it out and used it to escape. Once Nadia was free, she becomes the Unstoppable Wasp and founded G.I.R.L., an organization for young women in S.T.E.M..

4 Ironheart Built Her Own Suit Of Armor

Riri Williams, also known as the heroine Ironheart, is one of the most well-known Marvel characters that have been created in recent years. She has lead two titles, is a core member of the Champions, and is even receiving a Disney+ show.

Ironheart is a genius who was a student at M.I.T. when she designed a version of the Iron Man armor.  This caught Tony Stark's attention, and she was given access to his lab after his death, and she has since designed a newer, more advanced armor for herself.

Athena is an Olympian, who is also called the Goddess of Wisdom. Part of her Olympian abilities is that she is immortal, which has given her the opportunity to learn a lot. She has a genius-level intellect and vast knowledge in all fields including various types of magic.

2 Brainstorm Is The Resident Genius Of The Fantastic Four

Many people believe Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, is the smartest member of the Fantastic Four. However, this title actually goes to his daughter Valeria Richards, aka Brainstorm.

She tested to be more intelligent than her father when she was just a toddler and is currently the second smartest person in the Marvel Universe. She is a member of the Fantastic Four alongside her family and was also a part of the Future Foundation.

1 Moon Girl Is The Smartest Person In The Marvel Universe

Lunelle Lafayette, otherwise known as Moon Girl, is the smartest person in the entire Marvel Universe. She found this out by using the Banner B.O.X., something that is specifically designed for figuring out a person's intelligence level.

Lunella was able to fully complete the task the device gave her, which makes her the first and only person to do so. Lunella is also an Inhuman and has the ability to swap minds with Devil Dinosaur.
