Fans have known for a while that gaming veteran and Uncharted mastermind Amy Hennig is working on a Marvel game. However, fans did not know what kind of game it would be, which Marvel characters it would feature, or when the game would be set. Finally, at D23, it was revealed that the game would not only feature Captain America but also Black Panther. The title will be set in WWII, and it will be centered around Captain America and T'Challa's grandfather, Azzuri, as the Black Panther during that era. Along with Cap and Azzuri, it appears players will also be able to control the leader of the Dora Milaje, named Nanali, and a member of the Howling Commandos named Gabriel Jones.

While they may not immediately seem familiar to Marvel fans, both Gabe Jones and Nanali have deep roots in Marvel Comics, and both were active during the Second World War. Their inclusion may not just be a fun addition to the gameplay of the untitled game. The two additional characters will add new depths to the gameplay and storyline, and they might even open the doors for more characters to appear. Gabriel Jones, in particular, might allude to some other major appearances by Marvel Characters.

As stated, Gabriel Jones was a member of the Howling Commandos during WWII. Gabe was joined in the Howling Commandos by the likes of soldiers such as Dum Dum Dugan, Rebel Ralston, and Dino Maneli, but the leader of the group was none other than Marvel focal point Nick Fury. Fury has origins in WWII as the leader of the Howling Commandos. He has fought with and against some of Marvel's biggest heroes and foes. Since the Commandos will be making an appearance in this new game, it is a fairly safe bet that Nick Fury will show up at some point.

Both Fury and Jones were some of the first people to see Captain America in action, and coincidentally, all three of them also traveled to Wakanda during the war in the comics. Fury will likely take on a more directorial role for the Commandos and likely Captain America, which makes sense for his character. He is perhaps most famous for giving orders rather than following them. It is a safe bet that Gabriel Jones will be the player character, who is acting on Fury and the Commandos' behalf. However, as unlikely as it may be, this doesn't mean that playing as Nick Fury is completely off the table.

With the game being set during WWII, players may get to see some of the character's comic backstory involving several heroes who were introduced around the time of the war. Players may even get to witness the reason Nick Fury lost his eye. This is also a prime opportunity to explore Fury's relationship with Captain America, Black Panther, and other heroes who may or may not show up in the game. The title may even reveal the beginning of Nick Fury's role in S.H.I.E.L.D.

There are still a lot of things that are unknown about the new game. It hasn't even received an official title yet, so it seems like it may be a long way from release. Regardless, Amy Hennig is a fantastic writer and director, and the game is taking place during a true golden age for Marvel. All things considered, Nick Fury has a strong chance to make an appearance in the proceedings.
