It is inevitable that Marvel Studios and Disney will reboot the X-Men and include them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After The New Mutants closed the final chapter on the original X-Men universe, fans are ready to see more from the mutant world; especially with connections to The Avengers.

While the original movies do have their fanbase, many would agree that the films were unfair to some characters. Characters both iconic and obscure were often sidelined to focus on just one or two main characters; this is something that should be rectified with the MCU's reboot of the X-Men.

11 Sabretooth

Sabretooth Ravencroft feature

In the first movie, Sabretooth was a brainless thug who looked the part but felt undercooked. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Liev Schreiber played a much better version of the character but the movie itself was undercooked. So like many characters, the original movies did not do him justice.

Sabretooth should be one of the scariest threats in a fight; a proper recurring fight for Wolverine across multiple movies, not just a throwaway thug who works for Magneto. This villain deserves better in the reboot.

Blink Exiles 2nd Series Costume

Clarice Fong Ferguson AKA Blink is a mutant who can teleport herself and others at will. This ability of hers can be used offensively as well by only teleporting a part of an enemy away.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past brought this character to the big screen and featured an impressive use of her powers. Unfortunately, she had such little screen time that it felt more like a wasted cameo. With powers like hers and a distinct look, she deserves to be part of the main team.

9 Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler teleports in Marvel Comics

Though Alan Cumming's reasons for not returning were understandable, abandoning Nightcrawler in the sequels was not. Fans had to wait until X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix to see the character again and even then, most did not enjoy those films nor the sidelined portrayal of Nightcrawler. Not only could this character excel in an X-Men movie, but he could also easily lead his own spin-off.

8 Rogue

Rogue From Marvel Comics

With the rights of both the X-Men and Captain Marvel belonging to Marvel again, it is the perfect time to fix this character. Rogue in the original timeline of X-Men movies became notorious for being mistreated by the stories.

Instead of the strong, likable, and sassy Southern belle that fan loved, the movies turned her into a depressing emo-goth whose subplot dragged on for too long. While her plight was understandable, it just made fans roll their eyes and wish that a comic accurate Rogue would appear.

7 Iceman

Iceman using his omega-level mutant abilities

Iceman's powers are pretty self-explanatory just by his name: he can control and manipulate ice. Bobby Drake has been a mainstay X-Men for years and remains one of the more iconic characters in the roster.

This character did, in fact, appear throughout the original trilogy of movies before returning in Days Of Future Past. However, fans were disappointed that the character stuck to the sidelines for a rather repetitive subplot with Rogue; only a couple times throughout all four movies did he transform into his iconic ice form or use his ice slide.

6 Psylocke

Psylocke Wild Child Hellions

The movie version of this character in X-Men: Apocalypse is the prime example of a missed opportunity. Olivia Munn looked the part nearly 100% to the comics. The powers were there, but the final product butchered this character. Did she even speak? It is difficult to recall a single line of dialogue from her. This version of Psylocke was one of the four horsemen yet she barely did anything the entire movie. She deserves way better than a rushed second villainous role that served no purpose.

5 Cyclops

Cyclops From Marvel Comics

In the comics, Cyclops is the Captain America of the team who tries his best to lead. This was not the case in the movies as he was reduced to the jealous boyfriend for two movies, only to be killed off at the beginning of the third. The prequel movies portrayed Scott Summers better but that's not saying much.

To fix things, the reboot would fare better by making Cyclops one of the main characters with more personality. After all, this is the character whose eye beams are powerful enough to take on the Hulk. He's more than just a boyfriend for Jean Grey.

4 Kitty Pryde

Kitty Pryde X-Men Jewish

Much like Iceman, Kitty Pryde did have a role in a few X-Men movies but she was mostly wasted off to the side. Even in Days Of Future Past, they altered the story so she was no longer the main character who goes back in time. Kitty Pryde AKA Shadowcat is one of the most charming, adorable, and relatable characters in the X-Men roster. Many would agree that she would be the perfect protagonist for a reboot.

3 Angel

Angel From The X-Men

Ben Foster looked the part, acted the part, and the visuals for the wings looked perfect, so what went wrong? X3: The Last Stand. Ben Foster was given the same amount of screentime as Gambit in X-Men Origins. The character was recast and given more screen time in Apocalypse but felt hollow.

With an anti-mutant philanthropist for a father, Angel would make for a great story arc that was rushed in The Last Stand. Warren Worthington III trying to keep a peace between his mutant life and human family would be a relatable plight for viewers.

2 Jubilee

Jubilee and Generation X Cropped

Here's another character who was famous in the comics and the 90s animated series but reduced to an over glorified cameo. In the first movie, Jubilee was only noticeable if one doesn't blink; in Apocalypse, however, the look of the character was perfect but served no purpose other than fan service.

With her firework-like powers, she could be another great protagonist; an underdog that the audience doubts the usefulness of but turns out to one of the best characters. Perhaps just update the yellow rain jacket to something less silly.

1 Gambit

Gambit Throwing A Card

Gambit AKA Remy Lebeau is one of the most famous X-Men characters in the comics, but 20th Century Studios seemed to be allergic to the character. With his staff skills, explosive playing cards, and cocky personality, he is a character ripe for a movie adaptation.

Fans were excited when he was confirmed for X-Men Origins: Wolverine and he turned out to be one of the best parts! The bad thing is it was only for five minutes of screen time. Gambit deserved better and still does; fans would cheer with joy if he's one of the main X-Men in a reboot.
