Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, is one of the most beloved heroines of the Marvel Universe and she has been in the news lately. From her new comic run to the recent casting of the Jade Giantess for her upcoming live-action debut, it seems that She-Hulk is generating a lot of buzz.

As her comic book and Marvel Cinematic Universe futures rev up, let's take a quick look at how She-Hulk has changed over the last forty years. From her humble days as an attorney-at-law to becoming a powerhouse green superhero to certain insidious mysteries surrounding gamma mutates, let's see how Jennifer Walters has transformed since 1980.

10 Newfound Confidence

Before Jennifer Walters became She-Hulk, she was just a shy lawyer living in Los Angeles, and then her cousin Bruce Banner arrived. During his visit, Jennifer was shot by some hitmen and needed a blood transfusion from Bruce, who luckily studied medicine at one point.

When the hitmen came to her hospital to finish the job, Bruce's gamma-blood worked their magic and Jennifer transformed into the Savage She-Hulk. Unlike Banner, Jennifer actually enjoyed becoming She-Hulk because her confidence and boldness grew with her immense strength.

9 The Fantastic Four's Heavy

She-Hulk features in the Fantastic Four superhero team in Marvel Comics

While She-Hulk is more commonly known as a member of the Avengers, she's been known to join other superhero teams, most notably, the Fantastic Four. After Ben Grimm decided to stay a bit longer on Battleworld after Secret Wars, She-Hulk filled in for him as the team's muscle.

During her tenure with the Fantastic Four, She-Hulk was a part of some major Marvel events, like Spider-Man's symbiote suit and the discovery of Jean Grey's body in Jamaica Bay, wrapped up in a nice retcon cocoon.

8 Became She-Hulk (Semi)Permanently

She-Hulk learns that she'll stay green

When she first gained her powers, Jennifer wasn't too different from her cousin - dense and out-of-control. However, she was eventually able to control herself while in her green form and became more comfortable as She-Hulk.

This was further proven in 1985's The Sensational She-Hulk graphic novel when she was exposed to radiation from a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. According to Richard Reed, the leak caused a "genetic lock" on the gamma radiation in her cells leaving her (at least temporarily) stuck as She-Hulk, much to her delight.

7  J. Jonah Jameson Was Her Father-in-law

Yes, the infamous Daily Bugle boss' son, John Jameson III (aka the Man-Wolf, aka the Stargod), has a romantic history with She-Hulk. After going on their first date in 2004's She-Hulk Vol. 1 #5, the two hit it off, moved in together, and eventually eloped in Las Vegas.

While they seemed to have a good marriage, it was the beginning of the end when She-Hulk discovered that her former Avengers colleague Starfox had used his powers to manipulate her feelings before the couple even married.

6 Gained The Ability To Swap Bodies (Kind Of)

In Sensational She-Hulk #45, She-Hulk is held prisoner in space and asks an Ovoid to teach her how to mind swap so she can get help from her friend Weezi, who is on another ship.

But there's a problem. The mind swap doesn't work correctly due to the gamma-radiation in She-Hulk's blood and the two only take on the form of one another. While She-Hulk is short and weak, Weezi is now tall and powerful. It's no wonder She-Hulk basically never uses this ability again.

5 Went Against Herself In Civil War

She-Hulk is split between two sides in the Marvel Civil War

In the wake of the Stamford Incident, an event where a group of superheroes is blamed for the deaths of 600 people, the government debates over whether or not to pass a Superhuman Registration Act. She-Hulk goes on CNN and speaks in favor of superheroes being trained and licensed, essentially siding with Iron Man on the issue.

However, when Jennifer is unable to transform into She-Hulk and is tasked with defending two of the superheroes from the incident, she appears to be fighting against herself.

4 Leader Of The All-Female A-Force

The first Secret Wars brought She-Hulk onto the Fantastic Four and the latest Secret Wars made her the leader of her own team. In the short-lived 2016 series A-Force, Jennifer Walters was not only the leader of Marvel's first female-only team of superheroes, but she was also the baroness of Arcadia, an island on God Emperor Doom's Battleworld that the A-Force protected. Despite being unfairly blamed for America Chavez's exile and being constantly at odds with the Inhuman Medusa, She-Hulk proved her worth as a leader

3 Fell Into A Coma During Civil War II

During a pre-emptive strike against Thanos that Ulysses predicted, She-Hulk took a missile to the chest and was delivered a final blow by the Mad Titan, requiring her to be hospitalized. She-Hulk did manage to wake up but went into cardiac arrest and flat-lined before doctors managed to resuscitate her.

When Jennifer came out of her coma, she learned that Hawkeye had killed her cousin Bruce Banner, went to trial, and walked. In the aftermath, Jennifer decided to stick to practicing law for a while.

2 Began Dating Thor

She-Hulk and Thor share a passionate kiss in Marvel Comics

Having once been married to Man-Wolf, She-Hulk is no stranger to superhero-related romance. Throughout her life, she has dated or hooked up with Luke Cage, Tony Stark, and Starfox just to name a few. Nowadays, She-Hulk has her sights on the God of Thunder himself.

Since the 2018 Avengers run, there's been a will-they-won't-they thing going on where they shared a kiss and went on a mediocre date to the Savage Land. Recently, the two made it official and confirmed that they are a couple.

1 Killed By The Cotati, Resurrected By The Green Door

Cotati take over She-Hulk and attack The Thing

In 2020's Empyre #4 it was revealed that She-Hulk, after attacking her Fantastic Four and Avenger allies with her gamma radiation blasts, was killed by the Cotati, a once-peaceful alien race, who took possession of her body to become close to the Avengers in order to destroy them.

Thankfully, the real She-Hulk returned two issues later. However, with Immortal She-Hulk #1, we now know that She-Hulk was able to survive the Cotati possession by going through the Green Door, just like her cousin Bruce Banner.
