Marvel Studios released the first full-length trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringswhich features the return of a villain from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) The Incredible Hulk.

Toward the end of the trailer, a sorcerer using magic reminiscent of Doctor Strange's can be seen fighting a reptilian beast. While the look is slightly tweaked from the 2008 film, subtitles for the trailer confirm that the large foe is indeed Abomination. Other highlights include Tony Leung's Wenwu / the Mandarin displaying the updated powers of the Ten Rings and the debut of a mysterious water dragon.

Abomination in Shang-Chi

Emil Blonsky / Abomination appeared in 2008's The Incredible and was portrayed by Tim Roth. The character has not been seen in the MCU since then, but Roth is confirmed to appear in Disney+'s upcoming She-Hulk series. It is unclear if Roth himself will appear in Shang-Chi.

While fighting Abomination and the Mandarin may seem like difficult challenges on their own, these enemies will not present the hero with his main conflict. "Shang-Chi’s main problem in his life is rooted in not knowing who he really is," said director Destin Daniel Cretton. "He has to learn how to own every part of himself. If he doesn't allow himself to look at all of it—the good, the bad, the light and the dark—and to own it all, he won’t be able to reach his full potential."

Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Daniel Callaham, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tony Leung as Wenwu/The Mandarin, Awkwafina as Katy, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, Meng'er Zhang as Xialing, Ronny Chieng as Jon Jon, Fala Chen as Jiang Li and Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist. The film arrives in theaters Sept. 3.
