Marvel Studios unveiled the teaser trailer of the highly anticipated Disney+ series Secret Invasion.

Revealed as a part of the D23 celebrations, the brief trailer follows Nick Fury, once again played by Samuel L. Jackson, as he uncovers and fights back against aliens known as the Skrulls. The shape-shifting race has seemingly been inhabiting Earth for years, infiltrating key positions of power and influence. When Secret Invasion's place in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently unknown, many fans think it will be set during the so-called "Blip," the five-year span of time between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Beyond Jackon's return as the iconic superspy Nick Fury, Secret Invasion will feature plenty of familiar faces. Cobie Smulders is set to star in the show, reprising her role as Maria Hill, a former high-ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D who last appeared in Avengers: Endgame. Ben Mendelsohn will co-star as Talos, a Skrull warrior who serves as one of Fury's most powerful allies. CIA agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman) and James "Rhodey" Rhodes aka War Machine (Don Cheadle) are also slated to star but in what capacity is currently unknown.

Speaking about the production of Secret Invasion, Christopher McDonald, who stars in the show in a yet-to-be-revealed role, noted that shooting the MCU series was a dream come for him. "First of all, working in the Marvel universe and working with great actors is so wonderful," McDonald said. "What I can tell you about my character is that he can sneak in and out of any storyline in the Marvel universe."

McDonald isn't the only MCU newcomer to star in Secret Invasion. The show will sport see Game of Thrones alum Emila Clarke seemingly appearing as a key Skrull known as G'iah/Gloria Warner. Neither Disney nor Marvel Studios have yet to respond to these rumors, but a set video revealed a brief scene where Clarke's character is forced to fight for life against an unknown assailant.

Speaking about joining the MCU, Clarke has joked that she's terrified about accidentally spoiling any details about the show. "The first people I spoke to from Marvel were their security team, and I am convinced there is a man outside my house," Clarke said. "There's been a car parked there for a long time and, I swear to god, it's undercover."

Secret Invasion is slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
