UPDATE: Marvel has informed CBR that the original PR reporting actor Regé-Jean Page's involvement in Marvel's Secret Invasion series was incorrect. The actor is not now and has never been part of the Disney+ series' cast. The original article, as it was published, is available below.

Regé-Jean Page has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion TV series.

The casting was quietly dropped by the House of Ideas after the conclusion of its San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation. The presentation itself featured a surprise screening of the drama's first trailer, with Colbie Smolders, who will return as Maria Hill, in attendance to hype the project. "This is a darker show, you guys. We're going to get deeper into the characters, and it's an exciting thriller. You never know if someone is Skrull or human," she teased. The show will premiere on Disney+ in spring 2023 and will be the first TV series of Phase 5.

Starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Secret Invasion will showcase a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls (initially introduced in Captain Marvel) who have been infiltrating Earth for years. The series also stars Martin Freeman as Everett Ross and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes / War Machine, and will feature Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman in undisclosed roles.

The series wrapped filming in April and is currently undergoing reshoots. While reshoots are common and part of the Marvel Studios filming process, this particular case may be more serious, as reports indicate that Marvel is looking to replace a "devastating sequence" that parallels the ongoing war in Ukraine too closely.

Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Leinil Francis Yu, Secret Invasion is an eight-issue limited series that ran from June 2008 to January 2009. The story follows various heroes across the Marvel Universe as they realize that some of their closest friends and allies have been replaced by Skrulls, who are seeking to take control of the Earth. Like other crossover series, the event tied into multiple other comic books across the Marvel publishing line.

After starring in the 2016 remake of Roots and the ABC legal drama For the People, Page found his breakout role in Bridgerton, which quickly became one of Netflix's most popular shows. He left the series after one season to pursue other projects, including Netflix's The Gray Man and the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. He has also been rumored to be in the running to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond.
