The Infinity Stones were a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's overarching plot during Phases One through Three. The seemingly all-powerful cosmic gems were sought by Thanos, the Mad Titan to eliminate half of all life in the universe, which he briefly did before he was defeated in 2019's Avengers: EndgameThe stones were all destroyed, de-powered, or returned to their proper places in the timeline.

There were six Infinity Stones shown in the MCU, but there are also a number of other lesser-known Infinity Stones that have appeared in the comics and other media. While the MCU doesn't seem to be racing towards its next Infinity Stones epic anytime soon, it's unlikely that these "secret" stones will cross over to the MCU.

MARVEL'S EGO GEM

One of the major extra stones that appeared in the comics is the Ego Gem, which contained the essence of the goddess Nemesis. The stone was located in the Ultraverse, the world of Malibu Comics that was integrated into the Marvel Multiverse in the '90s. In ancient times, the god-like Nemesis became tired of her lonely existence and split different aspects of herself into the seven Infinity Gems. While six of the Gems stayed in the main universe, the seventh one, which contained Nemesis' psyche, was transported to the Ultraverse.

In 1995's Avengers/UltraForce, by Glen Herdling, Angel Medina and MC Wyman the Ego Gem was united with the other six gems. Nemesis was reborn and attempted to use her powers to remake the universe. However, the consciousnesses of the other Gems weakened Nemesis and allowed the two universes' heroes to team up and defeat her, destroying the Ego Gem once and for all and spreading her consciousness across the other Gems.

For a variety of reasons, it's unlikely that the Ego Gem will be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its backstory with the Ultraverse would be far too dense to explain without significant revision, and it, nor any other part of the Ultraverse, has appeared since the Ultraverse ended in 1997.

MARVEL'S DEATH STONE

Another major Infinity Stone that likely won't make the jump to the MCU is the Death Stone, which appeared in Gerry Duggan and Dustin Weaver's 2015's Infinity Gauntlet, a tie-in to the Secret Wars crossover. On part of Emperor Doom's Battleworld, Thanos had begun collecting the Infinity Stones again, and the Death Stone was created as a trap for him by that universe's Nova, Anwen Bakian. Bakian, who had previously obtained the Reality Stone and used it to create the Death Stone, presented it to Thanos. Thinking it was the Reality Stone, Thanos fitted the Death Stone into his gauntlet, but it quickly corrupted the other Stones and Thanos crumbled into dust.

Similar to the Ego Gem, the Death Stone doesn't seem to be in the cards for an adaptation because the MCU simply doesn't seem to be interested in doing anything more with the Stones for a while. With the purple warlord's quest for the Infinity Stones having already passed, it's hard to see where the Death Stone would fit into the post-Thanos Marvel Cinematic Universe.

THE OTHER INFINITY STONES

Deadpool Continuity Stone

Beyond those Infinity Stones, there are several other one-off or gag Stones that have appeared throughout Marvel's comic book and multimedia history. The video game Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet featured the Rhythm Gem, which was a fake Gem created by Loki. The Build Stone, which would allow its user to build any weapon they wish, was an important item in the animated short LEGO Marvel Super Heroes - Guardians of the Galaxy: The Thanos Threat. Perhaps most outrageous of all, Deadpool once wielded the Continuity Gem. This Gem allowed him to communicate with the people writing and editing the story he was in, as well as restructuring the comic book itself in a story by Mark Waid and John McCrea in 2014's Deadpool #27.

If Marvel Studios were to introduce a new Infinity Stone into the MCU, it would likely be a brand-new stone with its own set of powers. All signs point to Phase four focusing on the Multiverse, so perhaps a Multiversal Stone that allows its users to travel between dimensions could be in the cards. Still, this seems unlikely considering that the ending of Avengers: Endgame and the premiere of Loki closed the book on the Stones pretty definitively.
