The fast-approaching Runaways #38 not only marks the Marvel Comics title's 100th issue overall, but also the end of its current run.

Newsarama has confirmed that Marvel has canceled Runaways and that the celebratory 100th issue will serve as a surprise series finale. Set to hit comic shops this coming Wednesday, Aug. 11, Runaways #38 comes from writer Rainbow Rowell and current series artist Andrés Genolet, who are joined by former series artist Kris Anka and the Runaways co-creator, Adrian Alphona.

"Bringing Runaways back was a dream come true for me," Rowell -- who took the helm on Runaways when Marvel relaunched the title in 2017 -- previously stated. "These kids are my favorite Marvel characters, and I felt like there were so many great stories we could tell with them. We'd have conversations when we were planning like, 'What can we do in six issues? What could we do in twelve? Could we get to eighteen? That would be amazing!' It's thrilling to be looking back now at 38 issues, and to see how each of the characters have grown. And it's such an honor to be part of the team that reached this milestone with them. Everyone who worked on this book cared so much about the characters and the story we were telling. I knew when I signed on that I loved the Runaways, but I never thought I'd get this lucky with my collaborators. It's been a complete pleasure."

Written by Rainbow Rowell and illustrated by Andrés Genolet, Kris Anka and Adrian Alphona, Runaways #38 goes on sale Aug. 11 from Marvel Comics.
