A new rumor suggests Marvel may be eyeing Ryan Gosling for a role in Fantastic Four.

According to insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, the Oscar-nominated Gosling is the newest actor to be rumored for the rebooted Fantastic Four. Amidst several other casting rumors for the highly-anticipated 2025 movie, Sneider claimed he has heard rumblings that Marvel wants Gosling in Fantastic Four. However, it is not clear what role he would play in the movie. If Gosling were to join the Fantastic Four cast, his star status could potentially lend itself to the leader of Marvel's First Family, Reed Richards. However, nothing regarding Gosling's involvement in the film has been confirmed by Marvel Studios.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves into Phase 5, it has been reported that a Silver Surfer Disney+ special is in the works. The project would have a similar format as Marvel's other Disney+ special presentations, such as Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and feature the Silver Surfer working for Galactus in the far corners of the cosmos. Reportedly, the Silver Surfer will not be on Earth for the special presentation. However, it is apparently being planned to release ahead of the Fantastic Four movie, suggesting the two projects are linked.

The role of Silver Surfer is open at the time of writing and Marvel is reportedly looking to several high-profile stars for the role of Reed Richards. Rumors have suggested that Star Wars actor Adam Driver is Marvel Studios' top choice to portray Richards in the MCU. Additionally, Andor's Diego Luna has also been rumored for the sought-after role. However, addressing the rumors, Luna seemed less confident that he would be the one to play Richards. "The only thing I can tell you is that, for the next two years, I’m busy. In two years, we’ll see if what I want to do is even film," Luna said.

Whether he joins the cast of Fantastic Four or not, Gosling has previously stated his desire to appear in a Marvel Studios film. While working with Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo on their 2022 film The Gray Man, Gosling apparently asked the directing duo to help him nab a role in the MCU. "I hope they can manifest this MCU thing. I think that would be cool," he said. Gosling has also been rumored to play other Marvel characters as well, such as Ghost Rider or the Sentry.

Directed by Matt Shakman, Fantastic Four will hit theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
