Marvel Animation's Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors animated film is being supported by a series of animated shorts called Marvel Rising: Initiation, that is set to launch on August 13th. Ahead of the release of these shorts, Marvel has been dropping little featurettes about the characters and Dove Cameron's Ghost-Spider got hers just recently.
Ghost-Spider, of course, is the new name for the character that used to be known as Spider-Gwen, but since that has always been an unofficial name and her official name, Spider-Woman, belongs to Jessica Drew, Marvel has re-named her Ghost Spider-.
Cameron describes Ghost-Spider as "a really strong female character. She represents someone who is strong-willed, who knows what they want and goes after what they want, is confident, and who's also goofy."
The big twist with Ghost-Spider is that her father, Captain George Stacy, is hunting Ghost-Spider down. As Cameron notes, "She's got the mental prowess of a detective because she was trained by a detective." However, those skills are being used to fool the very person who taught her the skills in the first place!
In general, Cameron describes Marvel Rising as, "What we're doing is taking something that is classic, iconic, and making it new again. That's the best of both worlds, isn't it?"
Marvel Rising: Initiation will debut on Disney XD August 13. The show stars Dove Cameron as Ghost-Spider, Chloe Bennet as Quake, Tyler Posey as Inferno, Kathreen Kavari as Ms. Marvel, Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, Cierra Ramirez as America Chavez, Kamil McFadden as Patriot, Kim Raver as Captain Marvel, and Bradley Baker as Tippy Toe and Lockjaw.
