The following contains spoilers for Venom #9, now on sale from Marvel Comics.

Marvel has revealed Venom's new, terrifying villain is none other than Eddie Brock.

Venom #9 comes from writer Al Ewing, penciler Bryan Hitch, inker Andrew Currie, color artist Alex Sinclair and letterer VC's Clayton Cowles. At the start of the issue, Eddie Brock is trapped in the Garden of Time, a cosmic area inhabited by a number of symbiotes in former Kings in Black, while his son, Dylan, is being pursued by a terrifying villain named Bedlam in the present. While remaining in the Garden of Time, Eddie has begun interacting with Kang the Conquerer, who has helped him navigate the timestream but also is secretly working with the villainous Meridius.

How Does Eddie Brock Become Bedlam?

Wanting to save Dylan from Bedlam, who was also formerly trapped in the Garden of Time until Meridius released him, Eddie uses the time-traveling skills he learned from Kang to rescue his son. As he's traveling back in time, Eddie realizes Meridius is the one manipulating Bedlam for reasons he can't quite figure out. He reaches a point in the timestream where he warns Dylan not to bond with the Venom symbiote in an effort to prevent all the forthcoming trouble; however, shortly after doing so, Eddie is thrown back through time to somewhere new.

The new location is a cosmic space controlled by Meridius, who describes the space as a "cage" Eddie is now trapped in. "A cage to share, if necessary," Meridius tells him. "You've met Bedlam? The big one? He's bigger on the inside, isn't he?" Eddie then realizes he's stuck inside of Bedlam and witnesses a flashback to the events of Venom #7 when he/Bedlam stabs his son and the Venom symbiote. "It's my face," Eddie narrates. "It's my rage. An anger nobody else could know or fake or mimic -- the rage of Eddie Brock. Bedlam is me...and I'm killing my own son!"
