An upcoming story arc of Amazing Spider-Man will bring back a rather controversial numbering system. The "Last Remains" story arc, which begins with Amazing Spider-Man #50, will feature special issues with the ".LR" numbering system. This system was previously used for the "Hunted" story arc, which saw Kraven the Hunter and his progeny hunting Spider-Man and other animal-themed heroes and villains.

"Last Remains" will finally see Spidey come face to face with the mysterious Kindred, who has been manipulating several events in the web-slinger's life. The spinoff will feature a group called "The Order of the Web", which consists of several spider-themed heroes including Miles Morales and Cindy Moon. The issues also see Matthew Rosenberg (Hawkeye: Freefall) join Nick Spencer on writing duties.
