Despite the excitement surrounding John Krasinski's brief portrayal of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel will reportedly be looking to other actors for the leader of The Fantastic Four's cinematic future.

Rumors surrounding casting choices started as 4chan leaks before making their way to Inverse. The article urges the reader to take the information with "enough salt to fill the Baxter Building," though some Marvel fans will find it hard not to get excited.

Headlining the report is the possibility of Penn Badgley, known for his roles as Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl and Joe Goldberg in You, being cast as Reed. The stretchy genius was most recently played by Miles Teller in the unsuccessful reboot and by Ioan Gruffudd in the 2005 box office hit.

Melissa Benoist and Natalia Dyer are in the discussion for Sue Storm, and Moonlight's Jharrel Jerome appeared on the list in an unspecified role. Bryce Dallas Howard was thought to be in consideration for Sue as well, though this turned out to be hearsay. As for the villain, The Mentalist's Simon Baker is "wanted" for the role, who will supposedly be Doctor Doom, portrayed by fellow Aussie Julian McMahon in the film's 2005 rendition.

This alleged list of options also included Logan Lerman for Johnny Storm. Amidst the casting speculation, even Chris Evans spoke up about reprising his role as the hot-headed womanizer. Considering the possibilities that the Multiverse affords, he said that it would be much more believable if he were to return as Johnny Storm rather than Captain America. "Cap is so precious to me. And, you know, I almost don't want to disrupt what a beautiful experience that was." the actor added, "But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn't really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing."

The choice for a director for the film is still up in the air, with Bryce Dallas Howard popping up again as a prospective choice, though this was again revealed to be false. Jon Watts was initially attached to the project, but announced that he needed a break from directing superhero movies after his work on Tom Holland's Spider-Man appearances.

Casting reportedly began a few months ago and final decisions should be released at the upcoming D23 expo, beginning on Sept 9 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
