Marvel Comics was obviously looking for a bit of mainstream exposure when they tapped acclaimed writer Ta-Nehisi Coates to headline their “Black Panther” series. But after the strong debut for the new take on the African king, the publisher isn’t stopping at the comic shop to draw in new readers.
Today, website FastToCreate debuted a new behind-the-scenes look inside Coates and artist Brian Stelfreeze’s “Black Panther” #1 in what promises to be the first of a series of videos pitching the comics’ core concepts to new readers.
“I think what people have to understand that Wakandan identity held – that this was a nation that never been conquered,” Coates explains in the video. “There was an interior arc to the character that I sort of instantly connected with since I started reading…I felt like a strong sense of responsibility, and I take that very seriously.”
Stay tuned for more on the comic and its mainstream impact on CBR.
