Aaron Fischer, Marvel's openly gay Captain America of the Railways, makes his return in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty.
Created by writer Josh Trujillo and artist Jan Bazaldua, Fischer first appears in 2021's United States of Captain America #1. He is a member of the Captains Network, a group of Captains America who look out for people in their own ways, and being a homeless runaway, Fischer travels across the country by train and looks out for the homeless and members of the LGBTQ+ community. After appearing throughout the United States of Captain America miniseries as an ally to Captains America Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, a preview for Sentinel of Liberty #8 brings Fischer back to help Steve once again and his assembled allies: Nick Fury, Roger Aubrey/Destroyer, Sharon Carter, Peggy Carter and the Redacted.

Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly with art by Carmen Carnero, the preview shows Fischer help bring the heroes back together after they were mysteriously separated, and Fury appears to take an interest in Fischer. In late November 2022, Trujillo revealed that there were future plans in the works for Aaron Fischer, telling the Spec Tales podcast, "We're going to get to do some stuff with him in the future, again, which I'm excited about." Whether Trujillo was referring to Sentinel of Liberty -- a series he does not currently write -- or another unannounced project remains to be seen.
Marvel Releases a Captain America Crossover Event in 2023
A war is brewing for the Captains America, specifically the Marvel event Captain America: Cold War. The event will be a crossover between the two current Captain America titles, Sentinel of Liberty and the Sam Wilson-focused Captain America: Symbol of Truth. As of writing, it is unknown if Fischer or any of the other Captains America introduced in United States of Captain America will be involved in Cold War, which is slated to release in the Spring of 2023.
Why Captain America Says THAT to Summon Emma Frost
In the meantime, Sentinel of Liberty has focused on Steve dealing with the Outer Circle, a small group of powerful individuals that has controlled the flow of history as a part of a century-long game. The preview for Issue #8 welcomes Emma Frost to the series, who Steve summons by thinking the word "Mommy" to help figure out what has caused Steve and his allies' mental blackout. For context, the word used to summon Emma is a callback to Marauders #21 (2021), a "Hellfire Gala" tie-in where the mutant telepath reads Steve's mind and learns that she reminds him of his mother.
Along with Lanzing, Kelly and Carnero, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8 is colored by Nolan Woodard and lettered by VC's Joe Caramagna. Main cover art for the issue is done by Carnero and Alejandro Sánchez, with variant cover artwork by Phil Noto and Alex Maleev. The issue goes on sale Jan. 4, 2023 from Marvel Comics.
