If Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood is to be believed - she'll be sure to tell us with a "Toldja!" once it's officially announced - then Marvel have signed Peter Sollett, director of Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist, to direct a big screen adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's Runaways.

This is potentially interesting for two reasons:

  1. It's the first quasi-official confirmation of the long-standing rumor that Marvel are making a Runaways movie following the conclusion of their opening Avengers arc.
  2. Unless I'm miscalculating, Runaways will be a big deal for Marvel, being their first movie with Disney, instead of current movie partners Paramount Pictures - which makes the decision to skew for a younger (and, let's face it, probably straight from the Disney Channel) cast much more understandable.

Of course, even if this announcement is real, any Runaways movie is still years away - Marvel still have Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Avengers and a third Iron Man to create first. Guess it really does pay to work in advance.
