Marvel Puts Runaways On Hold

As Marvel ramps up development on television shows like The Incredible Hulk and Cloak & Dagger, it’s slowing down production on the Runaways movie.

Deadline reports the studio “simply has too much going on at the moment,” and plans to take its time with the live-action adaptation of the acclaimed comic created in 2003 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. The news likely will be received with mixed emotion by fans, some of whom have suggested Runaways would work better as a television series than as a feature film.

The comic centers on six kids who discover their parents are super-villains known as the Pride. Fleeing from their homes, the kids band together to learn about their inherited powers, defeat the Pride and make up for the evil committed by their parents.

The adaptation, directed by Peter Sollett (Nick And Nora’s Infinite Playlist) from a script by Drew Pearce (No Heroics), appeared to be moving forward fairly quickly, with the studio issuing a casting calla controversial one, at that — in August, and scheduling filming to begin in January. Sollett reportedly is still attached to direct, but has been invited to take another project first.
