Echo loses her connection to the Phoenix Force following a major battle in Avengers Assemble: Omega.

At one point during the battle, Echo and Lady Phoenix/Firehair, the first human host of the Phoenix Force who comes from the prehistoric age, use their powers to defeat the Dark Phoenix. The two of them then unite with Old Man Phoenix and Thor, who is revealed to have some Phoenix Force powers of his own, to stop a flood of dark power from destroying the entire Marvel Multiverse.

While their efforts prove successful, saving the multiverse takes its toll on Echo. She later visits Asgard with Thor once the battle is over and the day has been saved, at which point the God of Thunder explains Echo is no longer host to the Phoenix Force. "That power was recently burned out of her when she fought to save all reality in a place called the God Quarry," Thor explains. Echo/Maya Lopez first became acquainted with the Phoenix Force in 2021's Avengers #44 (by Aaron, Garrón, David Curiel and Petit) after she won a tournament to become the cosmic entity's new host.

What Comes Next for Echo After Avengers Assemble?

Having finished her stint with the Avengers', Echo's next adventure will see her working side-by-side with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen in a new four-issue miniseries, Daredevil & Echo, launching on May 24, 2023, from Taboo, B. Earl and Phil Noto. The synopsis for Daredevil & Echo #1 reads, "SOMETHING STIRS BENEATH HELL'S KITCHEN!
