The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given fans many great villains, and now a new Phase is among us. Many villains remain to be seen in the MCU, and they may yet show up.

Right now, fans are unsure what to expect from Phase 4, especially in terms of its tone and how different it'll be. However, that also means that Marvel and Disney have more leeway to try out different characters and stories. So, we've gone ahead and created a list of five villains we'd like to see in Phase 4, and five villains we don't want to see.

10 Want: Namor

Namor has been an addition that fans have wanted in the MCU for a while now. However, Phase 4 could be the perfect time to introduce him, especially with the possibility of Fantastic Four joining the cinematic universe.

Despite the Fantastic Four not being introduced yet, Namor would also be a great villain in a Black Panther sequel. Seeing the Prince of Atlantis and the King of Wakanda square off can make for some excellent storytelling. The two of them have faced off many times in the comics, so there's no reason for Namor not to show up.

9 Don't Want: Venom

While Sony seems to have a good thing going with their superhero-movies, they should remain separate from the MCU for now. Especially since Tom Hardy's Venom isn't exactly comic-accurate. Where he's more a villain in the comics, in the solo movie by Sony, he is an anti-hero.

Not to mention that Venom, as the main antagonist, has already been done before. The MCU has a good track record of using Spider-Man villains that have not yet been used in movies and making them shine.

8 Want: Kraven The Hunter

Kraven the Hunter

Speaking of unused Spider-Man villains, Kraven the Hunter would be perfect for the third MCU Spidey movie. In the comics, Kraven had disguised himself once as our friendly neighbor and attacked J. Jonah Jameson. Shortly after, Jameson would post a substantial reward for Spider-Man, causing several gangs and Kraven to hunt Spidey.

The opportunity presented itself when Jameson was introduced once again in Spider-Man: Far From Home. A similar story can be adapted, or they could go with something different as Kraven and Spider-Man have faced off several times.

7 Don't Want: Dark Phoenix

Yikes. Where to even start? While an interesting character in the comics, Dark Phoenix remains an issue to adapt to the big screen. The X-Men franchise attempted the famous Dark Phoenix storyline twice and failed miserably twice.

At this point, the MCU should focus their energy and creativeness on a different antagonist when the X-Men finally join the MCU. Perhaps it's more the fault of Fox than a problem with the character/story, but still. The Dark Phoenix storyline has grown somewhat stale on the big screen.

6 Want: Kang The Conqueror

With time-travel becoming more apparent in the MCU, it would make sense that Kang The Conqueror would eventually make an appearance. After all, he is a time-traveling conqueror who has tormented the Marvel Universe with every opportunity given to him.

While Kang has had a strong standing in the comics, the same can't be said about his presence on the big screen. Using Kang as the next big bad for the MCU makes perfect sense, especially with a new Avengers forming.

5 Don't Want: Beta Ray Bill

Despite some rumors suggesting that Beta Ray Bill will show up in Thor: Love and Thunder, it would be best if he remained out of the MCU. The reason being that he's yet another villain that wants to fight Thor for Asgard and prove himself worthy of Mjolnir.

It all sounds too familiar as Hela, and even Loki has had encounters with Thor for those reasons. They've both wanted to fight Thor for control over Asgard and its grown tiresome. Yet another villain that focuses on the same motivation is unnecessary. Perhaps if he were introduced earlier, Beta Ray Bill would've been a good fit.

4 Want: Doctor Doom

Okay, so chances are he won't show up in Phase 4, at least not without a Fantastic Four movie first. However, a simple cameo would suffice in this case. Doctor Doom has been the main antagonist to the Fantastic Four team for the longest time, and he's also one of the most sinister villains.

What's great about Doctor Doom is that he was once an average joe. He went to college, excelled in science, experienced child trauma, and lost his parents. You know, normal things. Reed Richard's "frenemy" relationship with Victor in college would be excellent to explore in the MCU as he later becomes a villain.

3 Don't Want: Hobgoblin

Hobgoblin is a case of running out of ideas for good villains. In many ways, including his name, he's similar to the one and only Green Goblin. In the comics, Roderick Kingsley attempts to create his own identity by becoming worthy of the Goblin legacy.

By far one of the worst Marvel villains, and no reason for him to exist within the MCU or even the comics. If Marvel ever decides to go with a Goblin-Spidey villain, they should stick to Green Goblin instead of his clone.

2 Want: Nightmare

Introducing Nightmare in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness would be perfect. Supposedly, the first MCU film that will have horror-elements in it and Nightmare would accompany that well. Not to mention that Nightmare was intended as a villain for the first Doctor Strange film.

After all, Nightmare is the ruler of the dream dimension and gets his powers from enabling fear into his victims. Oh, and Nightmare also took control of a nightclub, Club Fear, where people seeking a thrill would come to him to see their greatest fear. Nightmare is a horror-based villain, but not so scary that the MCU can't handle it.

1 Don't Want: Thanos

thanos from infinity

Thanos was great. How great was Thanos? Casually wiping out half the universe. We love him, don't we? However, his story in the MCU is done. Thanos was built up in the span of 3 phases, and when he finally made his full appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, he became the best villain the MCU had.

The problem is if they bring him back, it will make his story and the fact that he got dusted less meaningful. In fact, it would even undo all the emotional impact that came from Tony's sacrifice. The good thing is that we've seen his story complete in the MCU, so there's no need to constantly go back to the same stories or characters.
