A new Iron Fist is coming in 2022.

Following Marvel's recent teaser featuring Danny Rand homaging "Spider-Man No More," the House of Ideas released yet another image, this one asking "Who is the new Iron Fist?" Included in the imagery is a silhouetted Iron Fist channeling their chi as they prepare to deliver a devastating punch. "The dragon awakes February 2022," Marvel promised. "Stay tuned later today for more information."

For those who've been following along, this news shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Larry Hama, David Wachter, Neeraj Menon and Travis Lanham's Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon saw Danny pass his abilities on to Okoye, who in turn gave them to Gork. However, Gork was in the process of being reincarnated as the replacement to Shou-Lao the Undying, whom Danny defeated to gain his Iron Fist powers in the first place.

Danny Rand passing the mantle of Iron Fist to a new hero comes at time when many fans are curious as to what's in store for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Netflix famously canceled Iron Fist after two seasons, but it -- like the other Marvel Netflix shows -- is believed to have reverted back to Marvel Studios.

"It's horrible. It's like the death of a friend or a close family member," Iron Fist star Finn Jones explained in March. "You've spent years building this other world within yourself and sharing this other person with the whole world. Usually, with films or plays, you get to see that arc through. There's a journey. But with Iron Fist, it was like we just got to the peak. We were just getting there. We'd just turned the show around."

"We had just done so much great work, really getting the train back on the tracks," Jones continued. "And then, within three weeks of it being released, all of [the Marvel Netflix shows] were wiped out. It was sad. It was stunted. It felt like losing a dear friend. It's just a shame. There's not much else I can say."
