After a decade, Avengers: Infinity War looks to shake-up the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it.
We’re officially just days away from the release of Marvel Studios’ latest Avengers film, and with it will likely come the end of the line for some of our favorite heroes. While details surrounding the film remain sparse (nearly all of the cast confirms virtually none of them have even read the full script), there’s little known regarding the latest Avengers film except that we can expect a death… or, rather, deaths. So, with that in mind, we take a look at the massive cast for the film and how many films they still have left on their contracts.
Robert Downey Jr.
MCU Appearances to Date: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, The Incredible Hulk (Post Credit Cameo), Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming
After ten years as Tony Stark, many are expecting Robert Downey Jr. to hang up the suit sooner rather than later. Downey Jr.’s Marvel contract is a tricky matter. The actor has continually re-upped — and re-negotiated — his contract throughout the years, both ahead of Avengers and Spider-Man: Homecoming — so it’s not entirely clear just when his contract is up.
However, Avengers 4 looks certain to be the actor’s last hurrah as the much-loved hero, as he’s been turning his focus to other projects that he’s producing through his Team Downey production banner, including a Dr. Doolittle reboot. If Avengers 4 does make for his final turn as Stark, he’ll at least get to go out alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, who is returning for what appears to be Pepper’s potential final outing in the MCU. (Note: Paltrow’s contract was thought to be up ahead of her appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so it’s unclear if she’ll return yet again after Avengers 4.)
MCU Appearances to Date: Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers, Thor: The Dark World (Cameo), Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man (Post Credit Scene), Spider-Man: Homecoming (Cameo)
Although Downey Jr.’s Marvel exit is still up in the air, Chris Evans has already gone on record to say his Marvel contract is up as of the still untitled Avengers 4. While this doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t re-up his contract for an extra picture or two, for all intents-and-purposes, Evans’ time as Captain America is over as of next May — even if he manages to survive the battle against Thanos.
