Superteams have been a big part of comics since the Golden Age, when DC introduced the first one, the Justice Society of America. Over the years, the concept would be refined, with the Silver Age of comics seeing an explosion of superteams, the ones that most people think of when they think of superteams.

Marvel has long had some of the best teams in the history of the comics industry- powerful teams full of compelling heroes that fans love. It's accurate to say that without Marvel's additions to superteams, they wouldn't be nearly as well thought of. Let's take a look at some of Marvel's most powerful teams.

10 Thunderbolts

BARON ZEMO WORST - Leaked Thunderbolts Secret Marvel Comics

The Thunderbolts were a novel concept at the time of their debut- with everyone thinking the Avengers and Fantastic Four were dead, a new team of heroes stepped up to fill the void, but they had a secret- they were actually villains. Led by Baron Zemo, Masters of Evil members Moonstone, Fixer, Screaming Mimi, the Beetle, and Goliath masqueraded as Citizen V, Meteorite, Techno, Songbird, Mach-1, and Atlas.

Over the years, the team's roster would shift as would the team's focus as it became more of a Suicide Squad-esque type of team. The original team was the best, but as far as it goes, it wasn't the most powerful team of all time.

9 Guardians Of The Galaxy

The Guardians of the Galaxy have gone through a lot of rosters in the last few years, many of them using a core group- Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Racoon, Drax, and Groot. This core group is rather skilled, but they aren't the most powerful group of heroes, although working together, they've been able to take down some pretty hardcore threats.

They've had heroes like Cosmic Ghost Rider, the Silver Surfer, and Beta Ray Bill on the team and the current roster of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Marvel Boy, Phyla-Vell, Moondragon, and Nova is more powerful than usual but not when compared to some of Marvel's other teams.

8 Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants

The X-Men's opposite number, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants has boasted some very powerful members over the years, like Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Avalanche, and more. The most powerful incarnation was probably the original, which included Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Mastermind, and Toad. That said, these were the Silver Age versions of the characters- powerful but not the world enders some of them would become.

Future rosters would be larger but not as powerful. The weird thing is they'd be more formidable than the original team, especially Mystique's team.

7 Alpha Flight

Alpha Flight in Marvel Comics, including Guardian, Northstar, Talisman, and Shaman.

People wouldn't usually think of Canada's premier team of heroes, Alpha Flight, as one of the most powerful teams in comics but they definitely should. Composed of Guardian, Vindicator, Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird, and Puck, they're one of the most underrated teams in the Marvel Universe.

A good mix of powerhouses (Shaman), muscle (Sasquatch), and jack-of-all-trades (Guardian and Vindicator), Alpha Flight is a formidable group. While they might not be able to stand up to some of the more powerful teams on this list, they're still very good.

6 Dark Avengers

Formed by Norman Osborn when he was in charge of the Superhero Initiative, the Dark Avengers were villains- Moonstone, Daken, Bullseye, and Venom- masquerading as heroes- Ms Marvel, Wolverine, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man- and joined by Ares, the God of War, the Sentry, and Osborn himself as the armored Iron Patriot.

Ares and the Sentry are the ones who really gave this team their muscle, but the rest of the group was also proficient. Osborn used them as his enforcers, doing whatever dark deeds he needed them to; however, against some of the more powerful teams in the Marvel Universe, even with their powerhouses, they couldn't hang very well.

5 Fantastic Four

The First Family of the Marvel Universe, the Fantastic Four are as much a team of explorers as they are superheroes. Composed of Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, the Thing, and the Human Torch, they're a lot more powerful than their small size lets on, with Invisible Woman and Human Torch being the most powerful members.

Mr Fantastic's stretching powers make him a great fighter but it's his brains that make him formidable. The Thing is the perfect muscle for the team, a gruff yet loving man who will do anything for his friends. The FF has faced some of the biggest threats out there and always triumphed.

4 The Inhuman Royal Family

Marvel Comics' Inhumans - Triton, Gorgon, Karnak, Black Bolt, Medusa, and Crystal

While the Inhumans aren't nearly as popular as Marvel hoped they would be when they tried to push them as the new X-Men or, arguably, as they deserve to be, the core group, the Royal Family, is one of the most powerful assemblages heroes in the Marvel Universe. Medusa, Crystal, Triton, Karnak, and Gorgon are all formidable but the one that puts them over the top is Black Bolt.

With his ability to channel electrons, he can unleash devastating sonic attacks, fly, has super strength, has manipulated matter and energy, and more. The rest of the Royal Family is pretty powerful as well, but Black Bolt makes them one of the most powerful groups around.

3 Masters Of Evil

Marvel Masters Of Evil

The Masters of Evil are one of the most powerful villain teams in all of comics. A lot of that has to do with the fact that roster is so big. Usually led by Baron Zemo, the team gathers pretty much every B-list Avengers villain the creators can think of into a group that overwhelms just about anyone they come across.

Baron Zemo took the old adage, "There's strength in numbers," and put it to work and every subsequent roster of the team followed suit. On their own, most members of the team aren't the most powerful but put them together and they're one of the most devastating teams in the Marvel Universe.

2 The Avengers

Aaron's Avengers

The Avengers have always been the top team in the Marvel Universe, the team that takes on the biggest threats. Their current roster, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, She-Hulk, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, is one of the most powerful rosters of the team in a while. They're well balanced between power and skill with some great leadership.

On top of that, the Avengers can call on reservists that consist of some of the best heroes in the Marvel Universe, so if this team is somehow not able to take down a threat, they can call on even more back-up.

1 The X-Men

House Of X Powers Of X

The X-Men and the Avengers go back and forth as far as power level goes; sometimes the Avengers are more powerful and sometimes the X-Men, but right now in 2020, the X-Men are vastly more powerful. The reason for this is simple- they can call on just about every mutant hero or villain in the Marvel Universe.

With the founding of the mutant nation of Krakoa, just about every mutant is united. That means that the X-Men can call on mainstays like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Wolverine, as well as Magneto, Apocalypse, reality altering mutants like Proteus and Jamie Braddock, and more. If it were to come down to war between superteams, the current X-Men would defeat them all and it wouldn't even be a hard fight for them.
