The Marvel universe is home to a number of heroes ready to fight threats too powerful for ordinary humans. The Avengers especially are reserved for the toughest enemies such as Thanos or Kang the Conqueror. But when it comes to street level justice, it's dispensed by some of the most capable and brutal of vigilantes.

The Avengers may take to the cosmos, but these heroes stick to the streets. They're the baddest, and in some cases, the most brutal heroes Marvel has to offer, made all the more dangerous by their willingness to bend the typical "good guy" rules as the need arises.

10 Shang Chi

Shang Chi

While Shang Chi has been known to fight alongside MI-6 and the Avengers, he has also had many street level adventures. The Marvel hero doesn't have the gifts that many of his heroic colleagues do. He chose to use his fists to beat villains into submission.

Shang Chi is widely considered to be one of Marvel's greatest martial artists. He's fought alongside the very best warriors in Marvel. This is owed to his origin as an assassin for his father, Fu Manchu, before becoming a hero.

9 Silk

Cindy Moon as Silk

Once upon a time, Spider-Man was the only spider-based superhero in the Marvel universe. This all changed of course, and a Spider-Verse came to be. One of the newest members of the spider family is Silk, a woman named Cindy Moon was actually bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. Unlike Peter, however, she wasn't able to swing straight into crimefighting right away.

After years in captivity, Silk went out on her own to protect the streets of New York City. Like the original Spider-Man, Silk has the same spider abilities. She is considered to be faster than the 'ol webhead, however, and she has her own organic web shooters.

8 Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones appeared on the pages of Marvel comics in 2001 and has since become a fan favorite— especially after the Netflix adaptation that bared her name. Imbued with super strength and the power of flight, Jessica Jones is a hard hitting vigilante whose protected New York City outside the law.

While she has dabbled in private investigations, Jones' powers proved to be better used outside of her day job. She's a formidable vigilante who's tangled with the most dangerous Marvel villains.

7 Blade

Blade the Vampire Hunter jumping into battle.

When the streets of New York are besieged by supernatural threats, there's no greater vigilante to send out than Blade. The human-vampire hybrid has made a name for himself as Marvel's top vampire hunter. His skills make him one of the most dangerous vigilantes in the Marvel universe.

He is deadly with a blade and his fists. His most impressive feat however is being able to walk in the daylight, a power that he received from none other than Morbius, the Living Vampire.

6  Iron Fist

Iron Fist

A man known as the Immortal Iron Fist is sure to prove a problem to any villain. Danny Rand, the man who came to wield the power of the Iron Fist, is arguably the greatest martial artist in the pantheon of Marvel heroes. While his power is good enough to aid in fights across the globe, Iron Fist has largely remained a street level hero.

His power gives him the ability to concentrate his chi directly into his fist. This results in a devastating blow to anyone foolish enough to stand in his way.

5 Luke Cage

Luke Cage in a fight

Villains are in for a rough time whenever they encounter Luke Cage. The superpowered hero possesses unbreakable skin and immense physical strength thanks to the same experimental program that developed Wolverine's adamantium skeleton.

Tied together with his streets smarts, Luke Cage is as dangerous as it gets when it comes to most vigilantes. Unlike other vigilantes however, Luke Cage knows his worth. The thick-skinned hero went into business for himself alongside fellow hero Iron Fist when they formed Heroes for Hire. Not only does Luke Cage beat criminals to a pulp for justice, he does it for the money— as if he needed any more motivation.

4 Daredevil

Daredevil has long been one of Marvel's go-tos when it comes to gritty vigilantism. The man not only fights crime by day as an attorney, he fights criminals by night with his bare hands. What makes Daredevil so dangerous is the fact that he enjoys what he does.

Despite grappling with his faith, deep down Daredevil revels in his ability to strike fear into the hearts of the criminals of Hell's Kitchen. He may be an expert lawyer but he's an even better vigilante. And all of that despite the loss of his sight.

3 Moon Knight

moon knight

It's bad enough being beaten into a bloody mess by a masked vigilante. It's another to be beaten by a masked vigilante with multiple personalities. That's what makes Moon Knight so dangerous. Criminals don't know exactly who they're getting when they encounter him.

Often compared to DC's Batman, Moon Knight is just as quick to dispense justice upon the streets but without the Dark Knight's moral code. Moon Knight will not hesitate to kill when it's necessary.

2 Spider-Man

Spider-Man is easily the most iconic of Marvel's masked vigilantes. While he doesn't brutalize his enemies like other vigilantes, it's only because of his good nature. Spider-Man could easily destroy anyone in his path he really wanted. Thankfully, his beloved Uncle Ben led him to the right path.

While he may have his code, it doesn't mean that he isn't any less dangerous. Spider-Man packs a punch. In fact he could easily kill his enemies if it wasn't for his restraint. He may not kill the criminals of New York, but he certainly makes them regret ever crossing his path.

1 The Punisher

The Punisher has long been a fan favorite among comic fans, yet he doesn't have a famous rogue gallery like other equally popular characters. Well, that's because he kills just about everyone he encounters. Easily the most brutal of Marvel's vigilantes, Frank Castle is essentially a psychopath who just happens to be on the side of good. Mostly.

He is the antithesis of his fellow heroes. He has one goal in mind and that's to protect those in need by any means necessary. Haunted by the death of his family, The Punisher has no interest in sending his enemies to prison. He shoots to kill regardless of what his fellow heroes might think of him.
