An official Disney website has dished a few new details on the plot of Marvel Studios' Moon Knight, which is slated to premiere on Disney+ at the end of March.
An article on Disney Latino (translated by The Cosmic Circus) reiterates information we already know about Moon Knight -- such as "Steven Grant's" struggles with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) -- while also confirming the series' inclusion of some comic-accurate details -- such as Marc Spector's origin story of being left for dead by his fellow mercenaries before being saved by Khonshu, the Egyptian God of the Moon.
"Grant suffers from dissociative identity disorder, a psychological pathology he discovers after having flashes from another life. From there, the mercenary Marc Spector, a parallel identity in him, begins to manifest," the translated plot description reads. The aforementioned Khonshu "negotiates with Marc to become the bearer of his powers on Earth. Spector, who in those circumstances was already a former military officer, former CIA agent, and still worked as a mercenary, is abandoned by his companions during a mission and the Egyptian deity appears there to save his life."
That said, while Marvel Studios' next small-screen project is apparently keeping Moon Knight's comic book origins as a mercenary intact, it remains to be see if the characters of Frenchie, Marlene Alraune and Raul Bushman will factor into the series. It also remains to be seen if Marc Spector's other alternate personalities will play a role.
Nevertheless, Disney Latino's article also makes mention of Moon Knight's "Olympic-level athleticism," noting that he is "capable of performing complex acrobatics," in addition to being a "talented combat strategist" who can use "a great variety of weapons." Finally, the article mentions how Moon Knight's powers are directly affected by the phases of the moon itself.
Created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, Moon Knight first appeared in 1975's Werewolf by Night #32. In the comics, Marc Spector/Moon Knight has three more alternate personalities: Steven Grant, Jake Lockley and Mr. Knight. After being killed by the aforementioned Bushman, Marc Spector is resurrected by Knoshu, who tasks him with making amends for his life as a violent mercenary by protecting the innocent as Moon Knight.
Marvel Studios' Moon Knight stars Star Wars alum Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector/Steven Grant. The series also stars Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man and Lucy Thackeray as Donna. Additionally, May Calamawy has been cast in an undisclosed role.
Moon Knight is the fifth live-action Disney+ series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Hawkeye. It is slated to run for a total of six episodes, with series creator Jeremy Slater serving as head writer and Mohamed Diab leading the directorial team. After his solo series concludes, Isaac's Moon Knight is expected to feature in future MCU projects.
Marvel Studios' Moon Knight premieres March 30 on Disney+.
