It was first reported back in early 2018 that Disney was developing a Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated series, with the project officially getting the green light in mid-2019. The show is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name, which launched in late 2015 from writers Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder, artist Natacha Bustos and colorist Tamra Bonvillain.

2015's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 marked the debut of Lunella Lafayette/Moon Girl, created by Montclare, Reeder and Bustos. In the series, Lunella teams up with none other than Devil Dinosaur, who was originally created by the late, great Jack Kirby and first appeared in 1978's Devil Dinosaur #1.
