Marvel May Plan to Use Gunn's Guardians 3 Script After All

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Filler

The behind the scenes turmoil of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn't over yet. Disney shocked many fans a few weeks ago, when they promptly fired director James Gunn after some of his old controversial tweets were brought back to light. As soon as the news broke, there was an outpouring of fans and celebrities alike calling for Gunn to be reinstated.

Over the past few weeks, we've heard many conflicting reports, some saying that Disney was considering re-hiring the director, while others stated, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the company wouldn't reverse its initial decision. This therefore led others to question the status of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script, given that Gunn had already handed it to Marvel before his dismissal.

Earlier today, news broke out of a rumor that Marvel had opted to scrap the script, and that the studio would start the film from scratch -- something that would considerably delay the production of the highly-anticipated film. However, that may not turn out to be the case. The Hollywood Reporter claims that several of their sources have confirmed that Disney will indeed use Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn has been instrumental in shaping the universe of the Guardians in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He re-wrote the first movie from an original script by Nicole Perlman, he wrote Vol. 2 on his own and he was a creative consultant for the scenes involving the cosmic space team in Avengers: Infinity War. There are many people, some who even took part in a fan-made petition, who would like to see the writer/director finish his planned storyarc for the Guardians.

In fact, the cast of the film signed an open letter asking Disney to bring back the director. And, on top of that, Dave Bautista, who plays Drax The Destroyer in the MCU, has been very vocal in his wish to see Gunn reinstated. The actor recently said that he would try to be released from his contract if Gunn's script isn't at least used, something that seemed all but assured earlier today. But now, with some sources claiming that the script will indeed be used, it seems there is still hope left for Bautista's Drax to appear in the upcoming film.
