Midnight Suns Spider-Man Team Shot

Developed by Firaxis Games, Midnight Suns combines elements of its XCOM series with games such as Nintendo's Fire Emblem titles. The cast is made up of several playable Marvel superheroes, who team up to defeat the evil machinations of Lilith. On average, doing so will take players quite a bit of time, and that's if they focus on the arduous journey ahead of them. Completing the story mode of Midnight Suns will typically take players anywhere between 35 and 50 hours. This is just doing the bare minimum of peripheral activities in order to level up characters so that they can adequately face the toughest opponents in the game.

Those simply rushing through the story can do so at the lower end of this spectrum. The game is split into three story sections, with the gameplay operating on a day cycle. Gameplay isn't quite timed in the same way as XCOM games, however, giving players the freedom to do as many or as few of the side-quests as they wish. The same goes for developing characters' bonds together, which is key to making them a better team in battle. Doing these things adds the bulk of the replay value to Midnight Suns, and it's also why completing the game takes such a long time.

When it comes to experiencing all that Midnight Suns has to offer, the process is far longer than simply hitting the game's credits. As mentioned, the friendship mechanic in the game is integral to getting the most out of different heroes, with certain costumes and abilities only available after maxing out their bond. Plus, there are numerous side missions that bolster the over 45 missions needed to simply beat the main adventure. All of these are necessary, along with different "gifts," if players want to max out each hero's friendship level.

Additional playthroughs may also be necessary to get through everything, and this can be done at the player's own pace. After all, there are seemingly infinite combinations of heroes who can be utilized together to make the most out of the player's team. One of the game's developers has stated that even 90 hours of gameplay might not be enough to unlock every element of Midnight Suns. The bevy of content is already being added onto via planned DLC characters, which means that those wanting to explore every inch of Midnight Suns will likely have well over 100 hours of strategy and superheroics to look forward to.

Midnight Suns is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
