The official trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns' first DLC, The Good, the Bad, and the Undead, released, and it's all about the "Merc with a Mouth," Deadpool. The trailer revealed a lot of information on what to expect, including brand-new story missions and enemies, new attack, skill, and heroic cards, new cosmetics, and even an Abbey upgrade. "The Good, the Bad, and the Undead" is the first of four planned DLC expansions that will later include Venom, Storm, and Morbius.

Developed by Firaxis in collaboration with Marvel, Midnight Suns is a single-player story-driven tactical RPG that focuses on card-centric turn-based combat. Suns features some of Marvel's most popular characters as well as some of the more obscure ones plucked from the Midnight Sons, the X-Men, and even the Avengers. With its newest trailer, Midnight Suns is adding the fourth-wall-breaking antihero to the roster.

The Good, the Bad and the Undead Adds New Missions, Cards & More

The trailer begins with Deadpool, voiced by Nolan North, mockingly using Caretaker and Blade finger puppets to introduce himself and talk about a new supernatural threat facing the Suns. Unlike the main antagonists from the base game, specifically Hydra and Lilith, in the DLC's three new story missions, it appears players will be facing off against vampires seemingly led by villain Sinthea Shmidt, also known as Sin, the daughter of Red Skull. It'll be interesting to uncover what role Sin plays in the overarching narrative of the missions as well as what her character motivations may be.

The trailer proceeds to showcase some of Deadpool's new cards. Midnight Suns' card system features attack cards, heroic cards, and skill cards that correlate with each hero's unique abilities. Deadpool will have his own set of distinct cards that will alter his character's abilities and skill set. Deadpool's attack cards include "Quick Shot" and "Spread The Love," heroic cards such as "Burning Sensation," "Mag Dump," and "Pain Piñata", as well as "All Together Now," a unique skill card.

In addition to his personal cards, Deadpool has a central passive ability, "En Fuego," which can buff some of his other cards. This has the potential to increase damage, lengthen the duration of status effects, and reduce the cost of Heroism. With Deadpool's signature pistols, dual katanas, and frag grenades, "En Fuego" makes him a particularly useful offensive character.

Deadpool's DLC Brings a Food Truck to the Abbey

The trailer continues by showing off a new upgrade for The Abbey in the form of a food truck, complete with decals of Deadpool riding a unicorn and its "World's Best Turduckens." The Abbey is the headquarters for the Suns. Tucked away safely in a hidden dimension, this fortress of sorts acts not only as a haven for the team but a way to strengthen the bonds of the team members through personal interactions that build friendships. Deadpool will be able to take full advantage of these relationship-building mechanics, as they are beneficial to the team dynamic during missions.

The Abbey also allows players to train, upgrade their abilities, reap rewards from past missions, expand on the lore of the Midnight Suns universe, and more. With the addition of the Food Truck upgrade comes the "Discard" ability. Utilizing "Discard" allows the player to discard a card, which gains them an additional move per encounter during tactical missions. The Food Truck itself can also be upgraded to alter the "Discard" ability, producing a "Shove" effect in addition to the move. This grants the player broader strategic options during combat, as they're able to move teammates to safety and shove enemies into danger.

Deadpool Will Be Sporting His Own Unique Outfits

Along with the DLC comes new cosmetics. Aside from the base appearance of the Midnight Suns roster, there are cosmetic options that allow the player to switch up the look of their characters. There are Abbey outfits, which are mainly casual around-the-fortress clothing, swimsuits for relaxing by the pool, and special combat outfits, many of which include passive abilities. Deadpool will be given the option to upgrade his look in whichever way the player chooses, including a new wizard's hat, the Midnight Suns' signature black and gold duds, and more, but according to Deadpool himself, he will not be removing his mask due to budget restraints.

With new story missions, cards, Abbey upgrades, and cosmetics, The Good, the Bad, and the Undead has a lot to offer in terms of content. The addition of Deadpool as a playable character, along with his wacky brand of humor and high jinks has the potential to add a new layer to the tone and feel of the game. Marvel's Midnight Suns' The Good, the Bad, and the Undead DLC will be available on January 26, 2023, through the base game's season pass and a standalone pack on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
