Marvel's Midnight Suns boasts the biggest roster of playable heroes in a major Marvel release since Ultimate Alliance 3. In this XCOM-style strategy game, players will command a team of heroes that includes such fan favorites as Magik, Ghost Rider, Blade, and Nico Minoru, in addition to more widely known characters like Spider-Man and Captain Marvel.

At time of publication, Marvel's Midnight Suns has yet to announce at least four more playable characters. Given the variety of heroes who have been announced already, the possibilities for those four characters are endless and could include big surprises for Marvel fans. Some longtime heroes seem like no-brainers for this demon-hunting, ragtag team.

10 Magik In A Game Without Kitty Pryde Feels Wrong

Illyana Rasputin's best friend (and possibly more than just a friend) is undoubtedly Kitty Pryde, who for a long time was the only other person capable of drawing the Soulsword. Additionally, when Illyana first entered Limbo at age six, an alternate timeline version of Kitty was her protector and taught her hand-to-hand combat.

Even discounting her relationship with Illyana, Kitty is a beloved X-Men character, and her ability to phase through solid substances could give her some interesting advantages on the battlefield. Add Lockheed—her dragon companion—as a sidekick, and she could be a versatile unit in Midnight Suns.

9 The Few People Who Know About Sleepwalker Would Be Thrilled To See Him

Marvel's Sleepwalker prepares to jump someone from the shadows in comics

Sleepwalker is an obscure character, but his fans remember him fondly and perk up when he gets a moment to shine. Created by Bob Budiansky and Bret Blevins, he had a short-lived solo comic in the early '90s, but he has only appeared sporadically since. A Marvel Legends figure of him sparked rumors that he would appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but he did not.

Sleepwalker is an alien from the Mindscape, a place bordering on the world of dreams, and his purpose was to stop malicious creatures from entering human dreams. However, he was trapped in the real world. With his Mindscape powers intact, he became a superhero. In-game, his most interesting power would be his Warp Vision, which allows him to reshape any physical object in sight.

8 Give Morbius Another Shot

Poor Morbius has been the butt of thousands of memes and joke tweets after his movie flopped. But as one of the original Midnight Sons, it would be a shame to exclude him from a game about his own team.

Morbius' powers of flight and hypnotism would be handy in the game. The player could send him behind enemy lines and have him take control of some weak-willed Hydra soldiers. Mind control is a staple of XCOM, so Midnight Suns likewise needs some characters who can put the enemy in the player's hands.

7 The Punisher Would Fit Right In...If It's Franken-Castle

The Punisher may be known more commonly as a street-level, gritty hero, buthe has had a fair number of tangles with the supernatural. Frank Castle has fought monsters across the Realms and served as God's Angel of Vengeance. Perhaps his most memorable encounter with death was his resurrection as Franken-Castle.

A storyline spun out of Dark Reign, the Franken-Castle arc saw Frank cut to pieces by Daken and reassembled by Morbius and the League of Monsters. In the timeline of Midnight Suns, the resurrection of Frank Castle could be Doctor Strange's practice run for resurrecting the Hunter.

6 Elektra Is A Bit Like The Hunter

Head Shot Of Elektra from Marvel Comics

One of the more intriguing characters announced for Midnight Suns is the Hunter, who will be customized and controlled by the player. The Hunter is an ancient warrior resurrected by the Midnight Suns to fight Lilith, Mother of Demons, who also happens to be the Hunter's mother. If there's one character who can relate to this character, it's Elektra Nachios.

Elektra has lots of experience with being dead and resurrected. Not only that, after a resurrection spell by Daredevil failed, Elektra found herself split into two people, one good and one evil. Elektra had to kill and absorb her evil half back into her, a morally complex situation that might intrigue the Hunter. In terms of gameplay, Elektra's ninja skills would make her a great stealth unit on the battlefield.

5 Give Meggan Some Time In The Limelight

The Marvel universe has a fair share of mystical characters who get overshadowed by the likes of Doctor Strange and Loki: Amanda Sefton, Jennifer Kale, Clea, Chondu, and others. One character who could prove to be a charming ally to the Midnight Suns is Meggan, a classic Captain Britain character, a founding member of Excalibur, and at one time the leader of a revolution in Hell.

Meggan can assume any superhuman power at will, making her a wild card as a unit. She also has enhanced empathy, which could make her a confidante to the player in between missions. She's also so cheerful that her happiness once earned her the loyalty of an army of demons. That alone could turn the tide in the battle against Lilith.

4 Bring In Johnny Blaze...As A Villain

Johnny Blaze proclaims himself king of hell from a throne

Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes is already in Midnight Suns, so Johnny Blaze would be redundant as a playable character. However, Ed Brisson's recent run on Ghost Rider saw the Spirit of Vengeance as the King of Hell. This could set him up as a secondary villain in the game.

As the King of Hell, Johnny Blaze slowly lost his mind and ruthlessly hunted down any demon who dared escape his realm. Johnny's madness led to him targeting Doctor Strange and battling Danny Ketch. An out-of-control King Johnny could cause more harm than good when trying to wrangle Lilith's demons, leading to problems for the player.

3 Nightcrawler Has Lots Of Thoughts On Demons

Nightcrawler perches in the trees with a sword in his hand.

A master of teleportation, acrobatics, and swordsmanship, Nightcrawler's swashbuckling personality and unique design make him a mainstay in the X-titles. But what makes Nightcrawler an interesting fit for Midnight Suns is his spiritual life.

As a devout Catholic, some of Nightcrawler's most interesting character moments have involved him trying to reconcile his faith with the supernatural forces that visibly exist around him. The literal existence of demons is something that Nightcrawler would have to come to terms with, and the persecution he has suffered for looking like a demon could come back to haunt him in a big way.

2 Dani Moonstar Has Had Her Share Of Demons

Dani Moonstar prepares to fire an arrow using her foot

The New Mutants has had its fair number of scrapes with the occult. In one of the most famous New Mutants storylines, the Demon Bear saga, Dani Moonstar tracked down the terrifying otherworldly creature that killed her parents, only to be teleported along with her teammates to the Demon Bear's dimension, where an epic battle ensued.

In combat, Dani's best assets are her archery skills and her power to manifest realistic images of her target's greatest fears. Though not the most deadly mutant power, Dani's manifestations reveal fascinating images and useful information about her enemies. Putting her on the team and having her manifest the worst nightmares of demons could lead to some stunning in-game visuals.

1 If Elsa Bloodstone Is Not Included, Firaxis Has Failed

Elsa Bloodstone aims a sawed-off shotgun at the reader while resting a rifle on her shoulder

When the little-known but much-loved Elsa Bloodstone was revealed as a playable character in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, it was a pleasant surprise to her fans and fans of the cult classic Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E comic in which she starred. It would be a crime for another team-based game to come out on Switch—this time with a focus on the occult—and for Elsa not to make the cut.

A monster hunter and British adventurer with a family history of combatting the occult, Elsa is Marvel's answer to Lara Croft. Armed at all times with an arsenal of guns and a plethora of mystical artifacts, Elsa is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Given an uzi and a shotgun, she could wreck the forces of Lilith before Captain America has time to unstrap his shield.
