There are many secrets surrounding this scientist from another universe, and many more are likely to be revealed in the coming years. Between his nefarious plans and many evil creations, The Maker has truly been leaving his mark on the Marvel universe. Here are the top ten things Marvel fans should know about The Maker.

10 Reed Richards

The real identity of The Maker is actually Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. While he is not the Reed Richards of the main continuity, The Maker comes from Marvel's Ultimate line of comics. In Ultimate Fantastic Four, Reed helped found the team with Ben Grimm, Sue Storm, and Johnny Storm just like his mainstream counterpart.

Eventually, after the catastrophic events of Ultimatum, the Fantastic Four is broken up and each member goes their own way. Due to a series of unfortunate events, Reed Richards was warped from a hero into an evil supervillain.

9 Sue Broke His Heart

The event in Ultimatum that truly pushed Reed over the edge was his breakup with Sue Storm. Having been romantically involved with Sue since a very young age, Reed had imagined proposing to his teammate for quite some time.

Sue rejected Reed's proposal, devastating the young hero. The pain from that rejection would lead Reed to eventually becoming one of the most powerful villains the world had ever seen: The Maker.

4 The Maker

With the end of the Ultimate universe due to the incursions, all of the Ultimate Marvel characters were essentially wiped from existence. All but a few that is.

After the events of Secret Wars, a new mainstream reality was created. A select few characters were chosen from the Ultimate Marvel universe to make their way into this new reality. Maker was among these characters, except that unlike the others, Maker remembers where he came from.

7 Tried To Kill God Emperor Doom

During the events of Secret Wars, Doctor Doom had saved all of reality from being destroyed by stealing the powers of the Beyonder. After doing this, he created Battleword, a new world where he was known as God Emperor Doom.

In hopes of overthrowing the all-powerful Doom. The Reed Richards of the mainstream reality actually teamed up with the villainous Reed Richards from the Ultimate universe. Before the two Reeds could enact their plan to defeat Doom, Maker tried to betray the other Reed Richards. Then Molecule Man intervened, seemingly stopping Maker for good.

6 Created The Nevada Gun

One of the most powerful weapons to ever appear on a comic book page was the Nevada Gun. When the Ultimate version of Galactus attempted to destroy the Earth, Reed created this weapon to destroy it.

Using power taken from the Negative Zone, the Nevada Gun essentially transports the energy of a big bang and directs it into one concentrated blast. It nearly completely destroyed Gah Lak Tus (the name of Ultimate Galactus), proving that The Maker is capable of creating some of the most powerful weapons in existence.

5 Faked His Death

After Sue rejected his proposal and moved on with her life, Reed began to change. He moved back into his parents' house and began plotting. In hopes of getting revenge on the whole world for wronging him, Reed blew his own house up and faked his death.

Soon after he became The Maker and began a series of attacks directed at his former allies. When Sue and the others found out it was Reed, they were both hurt and furious. Although he was defeated after his initial attack, The Maker would come back with several nefarious schemes targeting the Ultimate Marvel characters.

4 Motivation

The trauma from the events of Ultimatum mixed with the rejection of Sue Storm changed Reed forever. His motivation, however, was much more complex than merely wanting revenge on Sue.

Instead, Reed directed his hatred at all of reality. Completely rejecting the way things had gone, Reed, as The Maker, decided it would be best to destroy reality and either make or find a new one that was more suited for him. This horrible motivation, mixed with his incredible powers and unbelievable intellect, made The Maker one of the most formidable supervillains of all time.

3 Children of Tomorrow

Perhaps Reed's most incredible invention was the Children of Tomorrow. A group formed to recreate the world in Reed's image, the Children of Tomorrow was made up of several loyal followers who The Maker experimented on.

Inside their base called the Dome, time moved much faster than it did on the outside. In five minutes' time, 900 years of evolution had taken place on the Children of Tomorrow, turning them into perfectly evolved superhumans.

2 Immortal

Ultimate Reed Richards as The Maker

One very surprising fact about The Maker is that he is essentially immortal. Reed spent the near 1000 years inside the Dome with his Children of Tomorrow. Over that long period of time, he didn't appear to age at all.

There was one change in The Maker during that time period, however. Over the 1000 years, The Maker became so much smarter over time that his head had to take on an elongated shape just to house his enormous brain.

1 There Are Infinite Makers

Future Foundation the Maker

When Secret Wars ended and the new mainstream universe was created, there was no more multiverse. In order to correct this cosmic imbalance, the good Reed Richards set out with his incredibly powerful son Franklin to recreate the universe using Franklin's reality-warping powers. What the duo didn't know was that Molecule Man played a part in the creation of each new universe.

Molecule Man separated The Maker into an infinite number of identical beings. Each one of these Makers was placed into one of Franklin Richard's brand new universes. All of the Makers share one consciousness. They can live independently, but the prime Maker can also move between these various versions of himself in order to travel universes.
