The reviews for Loki's first two episodes are in, and they are bursting with glorious Tomatometer scores.
At this writing, Loki holds a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 54 professional reviews, making it Certified Fresh. The website's Critic Consensus describes the show as follows: "A delightful diversion from the MCU as we know it, Loki successfully sees star Tom Hiddleston leap from beloved villain to endearing antihero — with a little help from the delightful Owen Wilson — in a series that's as off-kilter, charming, and vaguely dangerous as the demigod himself."
Tying directly into the events of Avengers: Endgame, Loki follows a version of the God of Mischief from The Avengers' 2012 timeline who evades Thor and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s capture thanks to a loose Tesseract, only to be re-captured by members of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Recent clips and promos for Loki feature its titular character being processed and put on trial by the TVA for "crimes against the sacred timeline" and put a spotlight on his early relationship with Owen Wilson's Agent Mobius.
Loki marks Marvel's third-live-action show released to Disney+ in 2021, following both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. According to Marvel Studios President and Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige, early discussions of a Loki-centric one-shot had Hiddleston playing the God of Mischief as disco club owner in the 1970s. In terms of runtime, Loki will adhere closer to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's episode length, with its first two episodes both clocking in at over 50 minutes.
Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15 and Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane and Eugene Cordero in undisclosed roles. The series premieres June 9 on Disney+.
