Marvel Legacy #1 will introduce readers to a team of prehistoric Avengers when it arrives in stores this fall, and now new artwork from Mike Deodato gives us our first look at two members of the team -- Black Panther and Starbrand -- with the headline, "Who Are The Avengers Of 1,000,000 BC?"

The Black Panther is shown draped in the skin of his namesake, right down to the accompanying tail. He is more than likely an ancestor of our current Black Panther, King T'Challa of Wakanda. A muscular caveman is displayed in a similar teaser, with the Starbrand symbol on his chest. Where there is the possibility of a blood link between the 1,000,000 BC Avengers' Black Panther and T'Challa, this caveman is probably the first human on Earth to wield the cosmic powers of the Starbrand. Aside from the teasers, no additional information is provided on the backgrounds of Black Panther and Star Brand. Knowing Marvel, we can most likely expect to see more teasers featuring the remaining members of the 1,000,000 BC Avengers over the next couple of days.

Filling out the ranks of the 1,000,000 BC Avengers are Thor’s father Odin, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, Phoenix and Agamotto. With the story taking place in the past, it is safe to assume these heroes, minus Odin, are the ancestors of their current iterations. Billed as telling the “startling origin of the Marvel Universe,” the 50-page one-shot Marvel Legacy from writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic promises to reveal how it’s “all connected,” a catch-phrase that is usually reserved for Marvel’s television and feature film projects.

Marvel Legacy #1 goes on sale in September.
