Gwen Stacy and her bandmate, Mary Jane-Watson, will finally come to blows in Marvel's King in Black event series. However, Gwen won't be the only character donning an alien symbiote, as Mary Jane will be in possession of the Carnage symbiote.

CBR has an exclusive look at the cover and solicitation for February 2021's King in Black: Gwenom vs Carnage #2 by writer Seanan McGuire and artist Flaviano. The cover by Ken Lashley features Gwenom and Mary Jane in mortal combat, with the Carnage Mary Jane wielding a symbiote axe against her friend. While this is obviously a Carnage symbiote, it is possible this is the Carnage from Gwen Stacy's world of Earth-65, rather than the symbiote associated with Cletus Kasady in the prime Marvel Universe of Earth-616.

KING IN BLACK: GWENOM VS CARNAGE #2 (OF 3)

  • SEANAN McGUIRE (W) • FLAVIANO (A) • Cover by KEN LASHLEY
  • GWEN STACY VS. MARY JANE WATSON!
  • They’ve been at each other’s throats over the band for years, but not like this. THIS battle of the bands really shreds…

"I could not be feeling better or more excited right now! You can expect a lot of swinging (and kicking) high, yelling loud, and general chaos," McGuire said when King in Black: Gwenom vs. Carnage was announced in October. "I've missed Gwen so much, this is really a gift." While Gwen previously gained a Symbiote during the original run of Spider-Gwen, hers is man-made. The King in Black miniseries will see Knull, the god of symbiotes, invade Earth-65, with Gwenom forced to defend her home.

This isn't the first time fans have seen Mary Jane and Carnage joined together. Mary Jane was once possessed by the Carnage symbiote in Season 4 of Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, taking on the name of Carnage Queen.

King in Black is the next installment of writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman's Venom saga. The event teases heroes such as the Avengers and X-Men coming together to stand against Knull, with Eddie Brock's climactic standoff with the terrifying villain looming in the background. King in Black is a successor to Absolute Carnage, which resulted in Eddie Brock and Venom releasing Knull from his cosmic prison, with the villain now making his way towards Earth for revenge.

Marvel has announced its first wave of King in Black tie-ins, which include a team-up between former rivals Iron Man and Doctor Doom as they battle a Knull-controlled Santa Claus. January 2021's King in Black tie-ins feature spotlights for heroes (and villains) such as Black Knight, the Thunderbolts, Gwenom and Valkyries. The second wave includes Return of the Valkyries, along with one-shots and tie-ins for Daredevil, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, Savage Avengers and S.W.O.R.D.

King in Black: Gwenom vs. Carnage #2 by Seanan McGuire and Flaviano goes on sale February 2021 from Marvel Comics.
