Marvel kicks off SXSW with Marvel Unlimited 99-cent deal

To help promote its presence at South by Southwest, which begins Friday in Austin, Texas, Marvel is offering readers access to Marvel Unlimited during March for just 99 cents.

The publisher's digital subscription service allows users to access more than 15,000 classic and newer comics on their desktop browser or through the Marvel Unlimited app. A monthly membership normally costs $9.99; a basic annual subscription costs $69.

"We just really wanted to unlock the vault and hand over the keys in a way that allows both super-fans and people who are just curious what it's all about to check out why people love this stuff so much," Kristin Vincent, Marvel's vice president of digital product, told Mashable. "It allows people to jump around wherever they want and get access to these classic story lines that have become part of our pop culture and also learn more about the characters they are seeing on the big screen."

Fans will be able to take advantage of the discount between Saturday, March 8 and Saturday, March 14 using the promo code SXSW99.

Marvel will present two panel's at the festival: "Marvel: Your Universe" on Saturday, and "Marvel: The House of Ideas" on Sunday.
