This Is Us star Lyric Ross joins the cast of Marvel Studios' Ironheart series in a key role.

Ross, who first appeared as Deja in the second season of the NBC drama This Is Us, joins castmates Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos in the upcoming Disney+ series, though her character's name has not yet been revealed. Details surrounding Ramos' character are being kept under wraps but, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Ross will portray the best friend of the main character Riri Williams, portrayed by Thorne.

Ross appeared on shows like Sirens and Chicago Fire before landing her role on This Is Us, for which she has received nominations for a Teen Choice Award and three NAACP Image Awards. In 2019, she was awarded a SAG Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a Drama Series. Ironheart is expected to start filming in June 2022 in Atlanta, GA.

Ramos' role was announced in February and while details are scarce, the In the Heights star will reportedly portray a villain in the series, with his role being compared to Kang the Conqueror from Loki. However, this has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. Following his debut in Ironheart, Ramos is expected to return in subsequent MCU projects as well.

Riri Williams/Ironheart will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever before starring in her own Disney+ series, Ironheart, for which Chinaka Hodge will serve as head writer. "We're shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first," Marvel Studios President/Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige confirmed in August 2021. "She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series."

Created by Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, Eve Ewing, and Kevin Libranda, Riri Williams debuted in 2016's Invincible Iron Man #7. A 15-year-old genius and MIT student, Riri is able to reverse engineer Tony Stark's technology to create her own suit of armor and become Ironheart. In the comics, Riri is also a member of the Champions, a team of teenage superheroes that includes Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Amadeus Cho/Hulk/Brawn.

Disney+'s Ironheart series was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios in December 2021 during Disney Investor Day. While Ironheart does not yet have a release date, the six-episode first season will premiere on Disney+.
