Marvel Comics' heroes and villains just can't seem to avoid going to war.

The publisher has revealed what lies ahead for the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Adam Warlock, Captain Marvel, Loki and Thanos once the just-launched Infinity Countdown wraps: The Infinity Wars will begin.

Whether Infinity Wars is a series or one-shot remains unknown, though Marvel has revealed the project's creative team (Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato Jr. and Frank Martin) and a release date of July 2018. The publisher promises more details will arrive during the upcoming C2E2 convention which runs April 6-8.

While the majority of the teaser image features a number of Marvel's heroes, along with the usually (but not always) evil Thanos, perhaps the most interesting aspect is the inclusion of a mystery character. Set in the background is a hooded being whose mask fully hides their true identity under the symbol for infinity. One would have to assume this is likely a new incarnation for an existing character, one whose longtime Marvel readers would recognize, but as of right now, there's no way to truly know for certain.
