When you dive into the world of comics, it comes with a big asterisk. The fact of the matter is that you can come across anything when you read these various stories, and anyone who's been reading comics for a while can easily confirm that. While many of the stories are fairly epic and focus on character, there are others that incorporate some brutal violence or awkward scenes that we can't seem to forget. In the case of Marvel Comics, it goes beyond what you're told is going on. After all, comics are a very visual medium, and the best stories show you the events that transpire rather than holding your hand all the way through. As such, many of these shocking moments have also been depicted on the pages, and they certainly leave an impression.

You can probably see where we're going with this, and as a result, we do have to warn you that you're going to see some potentially disturbing imagery. If you've got a stomach, then you should be just fine. If you're genuinely interested in this stuff, then be ready to have your mind blown. Now that you're prepared, we can get into 15 images of Marvel heroes that you can't unsee.

15 KITTY PRYDE HAS A LITTLE TOO MUCH FUN

Audiences are fully aware of who Kitty Pryde is. She's a young mutant who has the power to phase through solid objects. Because of this, she has become a valuable member of the X-Men team and even formed a relationship with fellow teammate, Colossus. These connections have been explored in other sources of Marvel-related media, but the moment we're discussing is between these two.

In Astonishing X-Men #14, Kitty and Colossus are enjoying themselves upstairs when, all of a sudden, the former falls through the floor covered in nothing but a blanket. She quickly runs back upstairs, and the X-Men that witnessed it quickly deduced what was going on. If you're still unclear, you're fresh out of luck, because we're not going to spell it out for you.

14 WOLVERINE CUTTING THROUGH HULK

"Old Man Logan" was a great story because of the different scenarios it placed familiar characters in. Take the Hulk Gang for example. Bruce Banner gave in to the monstrous side of himself and only got bigger as the years went on. Eventually, an aged Wolverine came to pay the green giant a visit only to get severly devoured by the ex-Avenger.

What happened next, you ask? Well, Wolverine popped his claws and slice his way through the insides of the Hulk. As the guts and blood spilled from Banner, Wolverine ended up coming out victorious, with the leader of the Hulk Gang left to die face first in the dirt. Needless to say, the rest of the gang quickly got the picture after that.

13 DEADPOOL BLOWS SPIDER-MAN'S HEAD OFF

What if Deadpool decided to stop being a self-aware mercenary who enjoys fun? What if he decided that, in his insanity, he was going to wreak havoc on the entire Marvel Universe? That's exactly what occurred in the appropriately titled Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. The voices in his head are telling him only one thing -- to destroy the world.

He does this by going across the Marvel Universe to take on the various superheroes that operate in it. He eventually comes to New York and goes toe to toe with Spider-Man. When the web-crawler gets the upper hand, Deadpool uses a gun and pulls the trigger, sending a bullet through Peter Parker's head. What results is a gruesome display of a mangled skull and a severed eye on the road.

12 HULK SMASHES THE SORCERER'S HANDS

After the Illuminati sent Hulk to Sakaar, he built a life there and even started a family. Yet, the ship that brought him to Sakaar exploded, leaving his wife dead in the end. Because of this, he swore vengeance on the Earth and decided to go back to get revenge on every member that exiled him in the first place in an event rightfully known as "World War Hulk".

Many Marvel heroes get involved in this conflict, including the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange. He used his magic to try and subdue the beast, but Hulk is too strong. He breaks free, grabs Strange's hands, and smashes them. All we see is the Sorcerer Supreme's hands battered with his fingers bent in all of the wrong directions.

11 IRON MAN HAS AN INTERGALACTIC CONNECTION

Usually, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers operate separately from one another, but in Guardians of the Galaxy #4, Tony Stark teamed up with the space heroes. However, in typical Stark fashion, the connection goes a bit deeper than just work partners.

While at the bar, the team and Stark share some great drinks, and he starts to flirt with Gamora. After some banter between the two of them, the comic cuts to an image of both of them lying in bed, barely clothed. Instead of Stark quickly leaving like he usually does, it's Gamora who gets up first to return to the bar, letting Iron Man know what it felt like from the other side of the fence.

10 BLACK BOLT UNLEASHES HIS WRATH ON CYCLOPS

Cyclops is a character who is constantly being screwed over by those in charge over at Marvel. He is constantly shown taking the low-road with a Machiavellian ethic (the ends justify the means) and not taking into consideration the consequences of his actions to others. In the Death of X series, Cyclops finally pushed some other Marvel heroes a bit too far.

The Inhumans released a Terrigen Cloud that was harmful to mutants and Cyclops worked to counteract it. That said, he called the Inhumans out directly and nearly promised to continue to fight them. After getting the lasers moving in his eyes, Black Bolt decided to give the mutant his comeuppance by speaking to him. We're left with a panel of Cyclops' flesh being ripped from his bones in issue #4.

9 DAKEN CHOPS UP THE PUNISHER

In "Dark Reign", things got a little hairy in the Marvel Universe when Norman Osborn took over leadership of the Avengers. Along with it were other villains taking the place of classic heroes. Among his comrades was Daken, the wild son of the Wolverine. Osborn knew of the operations of Frank Castle at the time, who was already in hot water after the events of "Civil War".

Because Castle was becoming a problem, Osborn sent Daken after him (who was taking the place of Wolverine). While Punisher is a capable man, he was shredded to pieces by Wolverine's son, and we had to watch the entire thing. It would've remained an awesome scene if they didn't resurrect him a few issues later in a ridiculous way.

8 CAPTAIN AMERICA IS ASSASSINATED

Captain America Death Marvel Comics

The consequences of "Civil War" were always going to be massive. Nothing was ever going to remain the same. But, never did we think that the very next issue, "The Death of Captain America", would turn out the way it did (although with that name, what did we expect). Remember, at the time the story begins, Captain America had already turned himself into the government for organizing the Secret Avengers and fighting the Superhero Registration Act.

He is then asked to stand trial, being escorted to the courthouse by some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. However, as he goes up the steps, Crossbones is on a nearby rooftop and snipes him from above. Without any warning, Captain America slumps over on the steps and we're left to see him deceased and broken, much like us minus the whole "deceased" part.

7 MAGNETO AND ROGUE'S ROMANCE

The idea of an X-Men having a romantic relationship with their archnemesis is something that seems like a big publicity stunt. Regardless of Marvel's intent, a connection between Magneto and Rogue did occur multiple times throughout their history for whatever reason, and it's an image that we can't rattle loose from our minds (much like the cover of X-Men Legacy #232).

When this pairing first happened in the pages, fans were either for it or against it -- most of them chose the latter option. It started in the Savage Lands where the two shared a kiss, but Rogue figured out that she couldn't take his powers away, making him one of the few people she could actually touch. From that point, the idea of their relationship has been explored further.

6 THOR BLASTS A HOLE THROUGH GOLIATH

Going into the "Civil War" event, the tensions were running high as both Captain America's and Iron Man's armies grew each day. Avengers were putting their stakes in the ground, and the real war was about to begin. In a fit of desperation, Stark, Reed Richards and Hank Pym designed a clone of Thor for their side (the God of Thunder was presumed dead at the time). However, when they used him in battle, they couldn't control him.

The cloned Thor's power was so strong that he shot a bolt of lightning at Goliath, a member of Cap's team. The charge was powerful enough to kill Goliath by piercing a hole through his chest. He died instantly, leaving the Secret Avengers to bury him where he lay.

5 SHE-HULK AND JUGGERNAUT GET LUCKY

Juggernaut and She-Hulk Wrecked Bedroom

When you have superpowers granted to you by gamma radiation, it drastically limits whom you can be in a relationship with. However, that hasn't stopped She-Hulk from getting around a little bit, but the one time she actually got to unhinge a little was when she went into a relationship with X-Men villain Juggernaut in Uncanny X-Men #435.

The two must have had such a great time because not only did they break the bed, but they broke the floor and even managed to create a hole in the wall. That said, this moment was later retconned to no longer be canon for whatever reason. Regardless of whether it actually happened or not, there's still a panel that shows us exactly what that connection would look like.

4 CYCLOPS AND HIS AFFAIR

1 Cyclops and Emma Frost

Cyclops has never been the most upright X-Man, or even Marvel character in history, and there are many things that he did, especially recently, which made audiences hate him even more. For example, there was the time when Cyclops and Jean Grey were going through some marital problems. Because of this, he went for some mental counselling from Emma Frost, which already sounds like a really bad idea.

However, all of this so-called "counselling" quickly turned into a much larger problem, as their connection only grew from that point. It came to the reality of them actually having an affair, and the worst part about it was that Frost was appearing as Jean Grey. Then the real Jean found them together, and everything went downhill from there.

3 BLOB DEVOURS THE WASP

Of all of Marvel's comics, you'll be hard-pressed to find one more despised than the Ultimatum miniseries. Serving as the finale to the Ultimate Universe, many people expected more from it. What we got was a cheap issue filled with many scenes designed to induce shock factor rather than great storytelling.

For example, take the image above. The Blob has decided to devour the Wasp in the wake of Professor X's death at the hands of Magneto. It's a gory and horrifying image, but doesn't add much to the story. It gets worse when Giant Man decides to eat Blob's head in a bit of poetic revenge. Let's just say that we're glad the series is over and we can focus on bigger and better things.

2 DRAX PUNCHES A HOLE THROUGH THANOS

2. drax rips out thanos heart

Drax the Destroyer's mission in life was always been to kill the Mad Titan, Thanos. After all, he was responsible for the death of his family, and he's still grieving. That said, he's never quite had enough power to do it -- that is until the Annihilation Wave infested the entire universe. During it, Thanos was working on the inside, hoping to unleash Galactus. This all changed when Drax found him.

He was given all the power he needed and couldn't contain himself once the opportunity came about. He tussled with Thanos and ended up punching a hole through his chest. Unluckily for Thanos, Death would not accept him, so he didn't actually die. While this lowers the stakes, we still get this rad picture of Drax's fist going straight through one of Marvel's biggest villains of all-time.

1 EVERY MARVILLE COVER

If you were to ask a comic reader what the worst Marvel comic series was, many of them would point to Marville. Everything about the production of this story was just horribly wrong. It was intended to be some sort of satire on common superhero trends, but it ended up handling in it in all of the worst ways.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the covers for this series were just misleading altogether. The majority of them feature a scantily clad woman (if she's wearing anything at all) giving some sort of seductive pose. What's odd about it is that it has nothing to do with the story at hand and is clearly designed to appeal to a certain comic reading audience. It's an insulting example of what a comic book can be when handled poorly, and those covers still haunt us.
