Marvel Illustrates Soccer's "Heroes of Euro 2016," Featuring Rooney, Bale & More

With France playing Romania Friday to kick off soccer's international Euro 2016 tournament, ESPN has teamed with Marvel Custom to create the lightly animated "Heroes of Euro 2016." The mini-site shows each of five star players in the midst of superheroic action, with a sidebar announcing his power set and a brief description of where he might fit in on the Avengers.

"Think the Hulk, but in a shorter, stockier package," ESPN's James Martin writes of Wayne Rooney, the veteran Manchester United striker. Of Portugal's preening star Cristiano Ronaldo, Martin says, "You just know there's plenty of Tony Stark coursing through Ronaldo's veins."

The full set of Rooney, Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, and Gareth Bale, in all their interactive glory, can be found at ESPN's "Heroes of Euro 2016."
