Hulu's adult-oriented Marvel animated lineup just took a hit. The planned Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler shows will not be moving forward on the popular streaming platform.

Howard the Duck executive producer Kevin Smith confirms he was notified on Jan. 22 that development on the series had been stopped. "I got a text from [fellow executive producer] Dave Willis in the morning saying, 'We got Tigra and Dazzler’d,'" Smith told Newsarama. "I called him and asked, 'Is that what I think that means?' And Dave said he had just got the word that there will be no Howard the Duck show. The only explanation was 'We have no plans for this character at this time.'"

Early this past December, it was revealed that the showrunner and writing staff of Tigra & Dazzler had been fired, effectively putting the animated series on hold. Newsarama now confirms that -- like Howard the Duck -- Tigra & Dazzler has been "shelved completely."

Despite information regarding the Howard the Duck series being scarce since it was announced, Smith remained optimistic the project would see the light of day. As such, he has some thoughts regarding this new development. "We had a lot of great writers who put in a lot of really hard work and came up with some inventive scripts, but we all got paid, so no one’s complaining," he said. "But we were all there to do the show, so that’s a bit of a bummer."

Smith admits he realized the possibility of the show's cancellation following the restructuring of Marvel Entertainment back in October, which saw Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige expand his role. "As a fan of the Marvel Universe, I like Kevin  being in charge of things in the sense of everything --  comics, TV and movies," Smith said. "It makes sense to have it under one guy, especially the one guy who’s brought Marvel the most success in recent years.

"Look, by the time [Marvel Studios' animated series] What If…? airs on Disney+, this will be a distant memory," he continued. "People will be like, ‘Look! It’s Uatu! He’s telling his stories!’ So as someone who was working on the show, it’s a bummer. But as someone who’s a fan of Kevin Feige, I’m like, 'Kevin, whatever you say.' He’s the most important Kevin in the universe, the Kevin who must be spared above all others. Even my mother agrees. I’m not offended in the least."

At this time, Hulu's M.O.D.O.K. animated series appears to be moving forward as planned, with the Patton Oswalt-starred show revealing its full cast earlier this week. Reports also suggest the planned Hit Monkey animated is still alive as well.

Howard the Duck, Tigra & Dazzler, M.O.D.O.K. and Hit Monkey were all supposed to air as part of Hulu's adult-oriented animated Marvel lineup, culminating in a crossover event titled The Offenders. With both Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler having apparently been axed, however, the future of the crossover remains uncertain.
