Some of Marvel Comics' greatest heroes transform into some of its greatest villains for a set of special variant covers celebrating Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto's Devil's Reign event, which spins out of the duo's run on Daredevil.
Dubbed the "Villains' Reign" variants, these covers will ship with certain Marvel titles throughout the month of December to coincide with the launch of Devil's Reign. The House of Ideas has enlisted a number of artists to make these variants a reality, including Pete Woods, Todd Nauck, Leinil Francis Yu and more.
"Devil's Reign will launch in December and see Kingpin's bold scheme to take down every hero ranging from the Fantastic Four to the X-Men! Villains will rule and heroes will fall -- and in anticipation of this upcoming crossover event, some of Marvel's top artists have delivered outstanding new artwork for a brand-new variant cover series!" Marvel said in an official press release. "These Villains' Reign Variant Covers transform your favorite heroes into some of the fierce foes that will take charge in the upcoming event."
Hulk #2's Villains' Reign variant by Woods sees the Hulk turn into the Kingpin, while the Thing #2 variant by Dan Panosian sees the Thing become Death.
Meanwhile, Kael Ngu's Black Panther #2 variant stars Black Panther as Sabretooth, Joshua Swaby's Amazing Spider-Man #82 variant stars Mary Jane Watson as Nightmare, Woods' Avengers #51 variant stars She-Hulk as Kraven the Hunter, Yu's Captain America/Iron Man #2 variant stars Captain America as Princess Python and Annie Wu's Death of Doctor Strange #4 variant stars Doctor Strange as The Ringmaster. Finally, Nauck's Captain Marvel #35 variant features Captain Marvel as the Mole Man.
