Marvel Comics has created some of the greatest heroes of all time, and no one can ever take that away from them. However, being a hero doesn't necessarily mean always doing the right thing. While some heroes have taught many lessons in being a good person, others don't share the same sentiment. Some of Marvel's best creations have been the characters with a flawed personality who aren't known for living their lives in black and white but living within a shade of gray.

The world of comic books is no different than the real world. Of course, there aren't men flying around with magical hammers or swinging on webs from building to building, but it isn't as simple as good and bad. Every person and every comic book character has made mistakes and usually wants to make up for them. Some heroes, however, don't care about righting their wrongs. Some just want to inflict pain, some just want to beat people up, and others don't know the difference between Justice and Just Cause.

10 Venom/Eddie Brock - A Symbiotic Savage Who Protects & Destroys

Venom Lethal Protector Marvel Comics

Venom started off his early days as one of Spider-Man's greatest foes and was considered one of Marvel's worst villains. Eddie Brock was a reporter who felt wronged by Spider-Man and by the world in general. After Spider-Man's black suit starts consuming him, he escapes, but it bonds with Eddie Brock. Combining this evil symbiote with an unreasonable person made for a lethal combination. After several battles and victories over Spider-Man, Venom decides to make a truce with Spidey after the web-head helps him save his ex-wife. Although, Venom breaks the truce after his ex-wife kills herself. Flipping back and forth between being a "hero" and "villain," the symbiote tells Brock what to do, and while it may help people on occasion, it's more about hurting his enemies than helping his friends.

9 The Human Torch/Johnny Storm - Blazing Bedlam To Fame

Human Torch Marvel Comics

Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, was one of the first Marvel's first heroes as part of the First Family, the Fantastic Four. The Torch may not be as dark as some of Marvel's anti-heroes and mercenaries, but he's had a lot of selfish moments throughout his career. As soon as he got his powers, he started planning on using them for personal gain. He wanted to become rich, famous, and date supermodels. He planned on being an actor but lost a role to a Super-Skrull. Johnny would also play juvenile pranks against his fellow teammate, Ben Grimm, aka the Thing. He eventually makes up for his mistakes and ends up helping the team, but justice is one of the last things on the mind of this fiery spirit.

8 Deadpool/Wade Wilson - The Merc Sometimes Has A Conscious

Marvel Deadpool Merc With A Mouth

Deadpool will never be known as the "hero" type, but he does have a lot of redeeming qualities. He may have started as a villain for the New Mutants, but he quickly became a fan favorite. Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the audience. He's also a skilled swordsman, gunman, and hand-to-hand combat. Wade will sometimes do what's best for other people, but most of the time, he's just looking to cut someone's head off.

On several occasions, Deadpool acts as an antihero and kills only villains and henchmen. He is mostly known for brutally killing his opponents because he was paid to do so. However, when Wolverine wanted to kill a young Apocalypse, Deadpool disagreed and said it was wrong. Wolverine claimed that all Wade cared about was making money, but it's later revealed by Archangel that DP hadn't cashed any of his checks.

7 Moon Knight/Marc Spector - Moon Mercenary Messes With Doc's Head

Moon Knight Marvel Comics

Moon Knight was mercenary Marc Spector before he gained superpowers from an Egyptian God. Spector worked for some of the most dangerous criminal masterminds in the Marvel universe. Moon Knight is often compared to DC's Batman because they use similar weapons and are both rich philanthropists. While Batman wears dark and uses boomerangs too, the difference is that Moon Knight once had superpowers and suffered from a split personality disorder. The Egyptian God Khonshu gave him his powers due to the fact the Spector was dying and agreed to fight for Khonshu on Earth. Spector uses his powers from Khonshu to trick a psychiatrist and successfully apply to the Superhero Registration Act, which shows he'll do anything to suit up as Moon Knight and inflict pain on anyone in his way.

6 Hulk/Bruce Banner - A Hulking Wrecking Crew

hulk marvel comics animated hulk

The Incredible Hulk has had many personalities over his long, storied history. Sometimes he's a complete loose cannon and will destroy anything in sight. He's also been known as "Smart Hulk," a mix of his wild Hulk and Dr. Bruce Banner. Sometimes he's in the middle of those two personalities. He tends to be more heroic when he's closer to his Banner personality, but the more the beast comes out, the more destruction occurs. Hulk is a founding member of The Avengers but is often considered a threat by his teammates and has even had to fight them. When Hulk is at his most destructive, he seldom cares who or what is destroyed. He doesn't care about avenging anything or getting justice as long as he can smash puny obstacles in his way.

5 Daredevil/Matt Murdock - Blinding Sexism & Satanic Baby

Daredevil Marvel Comics

Daredevil has been a hero who often fights for justice, sometimes as lawyer Matt Murdock and sometimes as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. However, there are moments when the Catholic-born Murdock has taken his anger to whole new levels. Despite Matt's usual appetite for justice, his Daredevil persona has suffered from sexist behavior and becoming obsessed with beating and defeating Kingpin.

Daredevil's worst moment occurred when a young woman gave him a baby to take care of. She told him that the baby was a miracle, but he believed it was the spawn of Satan. Thinking this, he throws the baby off a building but is luckily caught by his girlfriend, Black Widow. Speaking of Black Widow, Daredevil and her had a tumultuous relationship which led to him spanking her on the bottom and rushing her along. The Man Without Fear has shown on multiple occasions that justice isn't always his main priority.

4 Ant-Man/Giant-Man/Hank Pym - Cocky & Abusive

Hank Pym grows giant as Giant Man

Hank Pym is a gifted scientist and someone who has perfected changing his size at will. Although the MCU has portrayed him as a kind older man, his comic book personality has taken some dark turns. Pym is often fighting with his Avenger friends and claims he's the smartest member. Even his wife Janet can't stand his arrogance and will sometimes side with opposing Avengers. Hank has constantly put other people's safety in question and usually isn't concerned with what happens to them. His worst moment was when he had a disagreement with his wife and actually physically abused her. He may have been exposed to a chemical that brought out his Yellowjacket persona, but there's no excusing that behavior. In the film, Ultimate Avengers 2, Hank does sacrifice himself to save Janet so maybe Marvel came to their senses.

3 Iron Man/Tony Stark - Megalomaniac Boss

iron man tony stark marvel

The MCU version of the character was great and showed an Iron Man who had issues, but his comic book counterpart has been much worse. Iron Man's Demon In A Bottle story brings out Stark's descent into alcoholism and the lowest points of the character. He does get his life together and become the more heroic Iron Man we have come to know, but he's still a megalomaniac. He's a character obsessed with his wealth and his own power. He's also just a bossy jerk at times. Making Peter Parker reveal his identity to the world was ill-conceived and ended with almost costing the web-head his life. While Tony in the movies always tried to correct his mistakes, Tony in the comics didn't care as much and only cared about stroking his own ego.

2 Wolverine/James "Logan" Howlett - Slashing In The Past

wolverine xmen marvel comics

Wolverine will never win Humanitarian Of The Year and not just because he isn't human. Logan has helped save countless lives over the years, but unfortunately, he's taken just as many lives. He is stubborn to a fault. He usually befriends the younger or nicer heroes but doesn't usually object himself to anyone with an attitude similar to his. On many occasions, Wolverine's only suggestion is killing the problem. If it took place in a different timeline, his suggestion was to go back and kill the past problem before it became a problem. Wolverine likes getting revenge on those who have done harm to someone he cares about but bringing them to justice is the farthest thing from his pointy-eared mind.

1 The Punisher/Frank Castle - Shoot Now, Ask Later

punisher frank castle marvel comics

Frank Castle swore that he would seek revenge against those who killed his family and anyone who preyed on the innocent. Castle is a Marine who isn't afraid to use extreme acts of violence, extortion, kidnapping, and torture on those who have preyed on the weak. The Punisher's tactics are completely different from any previous Marvel character and make him one of the most brutal fictional characters ever created. He could care less about serving villains justice, as long as he can serve up some butt-kicking.
