Doomsday is a horrifically powerful being, given that he's almost unstoppable. His very existence lends itself to tenacity and an indestructible force like no other. He was the first entity to really give Superman a proper butt-kicking, changing the course of comics forever. It's hard to ignore something that is such a force of nature and that is why he's still a big deal today. Whether he's beating Superman into a Kryptonian coma or running roughshod through the rest of the Justice League, Doomsday is a threat to even the most powerful heroes the DC Universe has to offer. How would he fare in the Marvel Universe, though? Are there heroes willing to answer the call to stand against this beast?

In the Marvel Comics Universe, there are plenty of powerful beings, even those who could give Doomsday pause. There was a time when several members of the X-Men were disgustingly powerful, prior to the events of House of M. Doomsday presents a unique threat in that he can very rarely be stopped permanently, so the heroes of the Marvel Universe may have to settle for temporarily defeating the behemoth. With that being said, there are an abundance of candidates who would go toe-to-toe with Doomsday, simply to test their mettle. However, CBR is going to look at who could definitely stand against Doomsday and those who actually did!

20 DEFINITELY COULD: SENTRY

The Sentry is the most powerful hero in the Marvel Universe, not just because of his abilities, but because he was created to be. He's stopped the Hulk and even manipulated the fabric of the universe to defeat Molecule Man. That kind of power is unthinkable to the common hero or villain.

Doomsday is no common villain, however, and would likely give Bob a fight akin to his clash with Bruce Banner in World War Hulk. The difference is that Bob isn't Doomsday's friend, so he wouldn't hold back. Even if Doomsday got one over on Bob, he risks unleashing The Void, and that's bad news for everyone.

19 DEFINITELY COULD: X-MAN

Nate Grey in X-Man

Nate Grey is a product of a time when the X-Men were incredibly powerful when stacked against other heroes. He's the X-Men's answer to The Sentry, though he predates his golden counterpart. A clone of Cable without any of the restrictions, the psionic and telekinetic powers of X-Man are overwhelming.

With no restrictions on his powers, Nate is able to operate on a level far above Cable or even their more sinister clone brother, Stryfe. Given that Stryfe could permanently put an end to the nigh-invincible Deadpool, it's not far fetched to think Nate could put Doomsday down for a long time.

18 DEFINITELY COULD: BLUE MARVEL

marvel-vs-capcom-infinite-blue-marvel

Blue Marvel is a diamond in the rough when it comes to immensely powerful Marvel Heroes. Forced underground for a few years due to public pressure during the civil rights movement era of America, Adam has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence. Doomsday's defeat would be yet another accolade for the Blue Marvel.

Adam's defeated King Hyperion, whose power-level allowed him to subjugate entire realities. He's also spearheaded the Ultimates, managing to convert Galactus into a giver of life. With his raw power, immense intellect and knack for finding outlandish solutions, Blue Marvel would be a great candidate to stop Doomsday.

17 DEFINITELY COULD: MOLECULE MAN

The Moilecule Man imprisoned

Imagine having the power to control the molecules of the universe itself? Well, Owen Reece doesn't have to imagine. Molecule Man has control over the very fabric of the world around him, affording him power akin to a God. Owen has defied some of the most powerful beings in existence with his abilities.

He could easily pick apart Doomsday as a molecular level, and he could even erase Doomsday entirely. For a man who has defied God-Emperor Doom and the Beyonders themselves, it's hard to imagine he'd have trouble dispatching Doomsday. Only beings with similar power sets seem to pose a threat to the man who manipulates molecules!

16 DEFINITELY COULD: HYPERION

Marvel's Hyperion standing among the flames in Marvel Comics

Hyperion's powers are varied and formidable. He's durable, has energy projection that can cut even the densest materials and strength above most. He has traversed dimensions, witnessing power beyond comprehension, and lived to tell the tale. Though Hyperion of the Avengers is misguided at times, he's mostly good.

Referred to as a Sun God by some, Hyperion once held his own alongside Thor against the Beyonders. In an alternate reality, Hyperion's morality nosedived and he became a multiversal dictator, bringing entire realities under his heel. That kind of power would stop Doomsday in his tracks, and perhaps get him whooped across multiple realities, too.

15 DEFINITELY COULD: GABRIEL SHEPHERD

Proto-Mutant Gabriel Shepherd

Gabriel Shepherd is a mysterious and sparsely used character. All we really know for sure is that the man is stupendously powerful. His displays of incredible power include reviving a seemingly deceased Monet St. Croix after her neck was broken, stopping time (or at least slowing it down to an incredibly slow crawl) and control over just about any energy on the electromagnetic spectrum.

Couple all this with the fact that he is near-immortal and was one of the first mutants, named proto-mutants, and you have a recipe for a very quick fight. The Chronokinesis alone would cause big problems for Doomsday, as you certainly can't punch anyone if you can't punch at all!

14 DEFINITELY COULD: ELIXIR

Elixir in X-Force

Elixir's primary power is to heal people, which doesn't seem very useful against Doomsday. However, when you consider that Elixir has brought people's destroyed organs back to a functional level, he might not stay down, even if Doomsday tried to end him.

Josh's second mutation is the interesting factor. In what is seemingly a reverse of his primary power, Josh is able to break cells down. Previously, he could only do this via touch, but after his recent resurrection, he seems to no longer need to such his subjects to turn them to dust. He almost disintegrated Magneto and his Uncanny X-Men simultaneously, without any contact.

13 DEFINITELY COULD: ICEMAN

Iceman Emma Frost White

An Omega-level mutant, Bobby Drake is part of a group of mutants whose powers are astronomical. It is said that, if he harnessed his powers as such, Iceman could send the Earth into another Ice Age. This level of power over cold temperatures could go a long way to slowing Doomsday down, even shutting down the beast.

Even if Doomsday landed a hit on Bobby, he's been known to survive as vapor. The fact that Bobby could become a gaseous being and reform inside Doomsday is quite scary. If all else failed, he could cause an extinction-level event on a planet to defeat Doomsday, trapping him on a dying world.

12 DEFINITELY COULD: LEGION

legion

David Haller's mind is a patchwork of personalities, all with unique and differing powers. Though in the past it has been hard for him to control which personality is dominant, he's not beyond composure. With Professor X's help, he's been shown to be able to swap through his personalities and abilities on a whim, as seen in X-Men: Second Coming.

Given the number of powers at Legion's disposal, he could find several ways to deal with Doomsday. During Age Of X, David's power manifested an entire alternate reality. If David learned to control his ability to manifest realities, he could trap Doomsday perpetually.

11 DEFINITELY COULD: DR. STRANGE

In recent years, magic has been diminished in the Marvel Universe. Thanks to a group known as the Empirikul, magic was almost annihilated. Luckily Dr. Strange stopped those guys and is helping restore magic to the level it once operated on. Perhaps Doomsday would stand a chance if he'd attacked during magic's low point, but we're not so sure Stephen would go quietly.

Given the immense depth of magic, there are countless ways Stephen Strange could deal with Doomsday. The Sorcerer Supreme could simply banish Doomsday to a dimension wherein things far scarier than the monster exist. Misdirection, ancient enchantments, and impossibly powerful artifacts would bamboozle Doomsday entirely.

10 DEFINITELY COULD: WOLVERINE

Wolverine costume

Though it wouldn't be the easiest fight on this list, this one would definitely be the longest. Logan doesn't suffer defeat lightly, and he'd probably be thrown about in the first few rounds. However, owing to his healing factor and his sheer stubbornness, Wolverine would claw a victory from the jaws of defeat.

Logan's seen it all and done it all, one of his characteristics is to be resilient. He's been a staple to more teams than most because he can always be relied on to keep fighting. With Doomsday's adaptability, these brawlers could go forever. Logan's taken down whole families of Hulks, he's the best there is at what he does, and Doomsday would find out that what Logan does, ain't pretty.

9 DEFINITELY COULD: JEAN GREY

Having an incredible amount of power is nothing new to Jean Grey. She's been host to the Phoenix Force on several occasions and respects and even fears the power. Harnessing the power of the Phoenix affords Jean a nearly unparalleled level of cosmic and psionic power.

Given that she can wipe out entire planets with her power when possessed, Doomsday may find her an insurmountable foe. Though the force itself has been wielded by a few over the years, having it captained by its most potent host would ensure Doomsday didn't get back up. The fact she could take it up another notch to the far more dangerous Dark Phoenix is also something to be considered.

8 DEFINITELY COULD: VULCAN

Vulcan aka Gabriel Summers in front of space fleet

Although much like Thanos, Vulcan is known as a villain to most of the universe, he was once a hero. The young mutant was tasked with rescuing the original X-Men from Krakoa. Though his team perished, Vulcan's immense power preserved him. In his rage at Xavier, he dispatched the entire X-Men roster with little more than an afterthought.

Vulcan also decimated entire worlds, bringing the Shi'ar empire under his boot. With that much power and the ability to subjugate galactic empires, Doomsday would need to pull out something special to stand against Vulcan. A man who withstood several volleys of Black Bolt's voice, Vulcan is exactly the engine of raw power to put Doomsday to rest.

7 DEFINITELY COULD: SCARLET WITCH

Scarlet Witch Nexus-Being

Though Wanda Maximoff's powers weren't fully understood for a long time, they're now known to be extremely powerful. Ask any one of the mutant race, they'll tell you she's major league. She's warped reality to her whim, eliminated mutant powers throughout the population and even helped turn the Phoenix away.

Wanda's magic also affects probability, giving her some much-needed luck, akin to that of Domino. She'll be hard to pin down, giving Doomsday's brute force a bit of a disadvantage. If he can't deal with her quickly enough, Wanda could utter three words Doomsday doesn't want to hear: "No more Doomsday."

6 DEFINITELY COULD: ROGUE

A longtime fan favorite of Marvel Comics readers, people would just like to see Rogue win this one. However, when you consider her powers involve taking other beings' powers, she could even the odds with the right amount of contact. It may overwhelm her, but she's absorbed powers from some of the heaviest hitters in the Marvel Universe before.

Rogue's been shown to hold on to powers for extended periods of time, sometimes permanently. She can even take on multiple powers, using them in tandem with one another. So, even if she doesn't get close to Doomsday, she could borrow the power of other heroes, even those on this list, to get the job done.

5 DEFINITELY COULD: CANNONBALL

Cannonball From X-Men

Though Cannonball isn't the most powerful mutant around, his ability is quite unique. While traveling at his immense velocities he is nigh-invulnerable. Sam Guthrie is also a student of the X-Mansion, meaning he is reluctant to put a permanent end to his enemies. So, with a power based in momentum, protection of his own person and a good moral compass, how would he stop a merciless Doomsday?

Sam would have to employ the tried and true method of throwing the large threat into space. Granted, this isn't a good long-term strategy but he could put a good amount of distance between the Earth and Doomsday. Heck, they've been dealing with the Hulk this way for years!

4 DEFINITELY COULD: NICK FURY

old man nick fury

On paper, Nick Fury would be pulped into a nice thin paste by Doomsday. A frail human frame and a few Life-Model Decoys wouldn't be enough to save Fury from Doomsday's, well... fury! We have to consider, however, following Original Sin, that Fury has been seeing off threats like Doomsday for years.

Taking up a role as the metaphorical "man on the wall" protecting us from threats unseen and unspeakable, Fury's surprised us all over the years. When a person can eradicate an entire living planet from orbit with ordinance we've never seen before, you've got to root for his resourcefulness.

3 DEFINITELY COULD: THANOS

Though not truly a hero, Thanos has been known to do the right thing when it suits him. Having Doomsday rampaging around might complicate one of his many schemes. Thanos, however, would stand a good change against him, given his experience and the power he himself has held.

In the events of "Thanos Wins" we see a Thanos who has defeated every possible enemy to impress Mistress Death. He toppled Galactus, The Hulk, and even a Worthy Silver Surfer. Doomsday wouldn't be easy to stop, but Thanos would find a way and once he did, he would offer Doomsday to his true love.

2 DID: HULK

It's often debated between fans whether Hulk or Doomsday would come out on top of the two titans clashed. They both have a lot of anger to work out, and would be their counterpart's ideal punching bag.  The two haven't met properly in battle, which is a shame, because an official showdown would be something to behold.

However, in Hulk #413 the two unofficially met briefly, with the Hulk winning the day. While in a virtual reality simulation, Hulk was seen to be fighting several formidable foes. One of whom, who is seen being bested by the Hulk, bears an uncanny resemblance to Doomsday.

1 DID: THOR

Thor loves to fight. If there is one thing Thor could consider his hobby, it is testing his mettle against those he considers to be worthy adversaries. It's part of the reason he's had a longstanding rivalry with his Avengers teammate, Hulk. Doomsday is exactly the kind of challenger that the Son of Odin relishes.

Thor did get a chance to have his shot at Doomsday, and he came out on top. The God of Thunder found himself in contention with the brutish being in the pages of JLA/Avengers #4. Used to felling giants and countless beasts across the Nine Realms, Thor applied his uniquely particular brand of Asgardian justice to the behemoth.
